Hello fellow Rubyists,

Just wanted to say thank you to our great speakers who gave presentations at Monday's Rails 4 meetup, Dave Groulx, Chris Gaffney, and Matthew Seeley.  I think I speak for all the attendees in saying that all the presentations were great and very well done.  Here's a brief summary:

  • Dave Groulx presented a history of caching in Rails and how Rails 4's new "Russian Roll Caching" can dramatically speed up your dynamic pages.  He demonstrated a simple example using users, posts and comments.
  • Chris Gaffney showed a demo of the new live streaming API in Rails 4 using a twitter bot to stream tweets.  He even showed a simple example of how Collective Idea is using it for an internal application.
  • Matthew Seeley presented how Strong Parameters will be implemented in Rails 4 by default and how they will work.  He showed examples of how this will provide enhanced security for new applications.

Upcoming Meetups

June 17 - Get Your Hands Dirty With Ruby - RVSP

July 1 - No meetup.  Go have some summertime fun!

August 5 - Ruby DevOps - RVSP

We also discussed additional topics for upcoming meetups.  If you have a suggestion for a meetup topic, suggestions can be made at the meetup site.  Vote for a topic by RVSPing.

Thanks again,

Adam
