Re: [ruby-46] rails hosting + deployment

For the project I'm currently working on, it doesn't need to scale at all. Stuff that's coming down the pipeline will need to though. As far as Heroku goes, I'm under the impression that you need to have a $30/month plan just to keep your dyno from shutting off after a period of no requests. Not ideal.

Right now I am working with digitalocean. Seems easy to fire up a "droplet" with ubuntu, rails, unicorn installed. Though I'm struggling with deploying my app from a cloned git repository. I'll probably figure it out soon. Looking into using Capistrano now.

Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on what hosting is easiest to manage while being affordable, configurable, and scalable (for future projects).

How much does it actually have to scale? Often people worry about this and put time/money into solving that problem before it's a problem.

I'm trying to deploy a rails app for production with absolutely no SysOps knowledge. I was thinking of using Could 66, as it seems like a no brainer deployment, but it's a little more expensive. Digital ocean is a bit cheaper, but seems to require a lot more knowledge for deployment and scaling. I checked out rackspace, but they seem a bit expensive, even without the ease of Cloud 66.

Any thoughts? Anyone ever use these hosts? Any others I should check out?
