I've been fairly happy using AppFog, but I think they just got rid of 
their free plan, and I'm grandfathered in. I haven't used many of the 
other choices.

As far as a longer term solution and flexibility and scalability, I have 
found Rackspace to be a real pleasure. It does require sysops knowledge 
,unless you pay for their managed cloud, so it's not a good quick start 
solution. However, basic setup is actually very easy and there are a lot 
of very thoroughly vetted and easy, step by step setup instructions, and 
any holes are fairly easily bridged with their livechat or phone 
support. I didn't know anything when I started using it and now I feel 
pretty comfortable undertaking whatever I need. They have amazing 
support, it's pretty affordable, and you can do just about anything you
