Sorry, but I don't have just one favorite.
The Belly Dance Book by Tazz Richards is a compilation of articles that every one should have in their collection. Ditto, for The Tribal Bibal by Kajira Djouhmani, especially for tribal and ethnic/forkloric fusion enthusiasts. For the history fanatics I recommend Seprent of the Nile: Women and Dance in the Arab World by Wendy Buonaventura, and for a deeper insight into the secluded life, Harem: The World Behind the Veil. Both have lots of piictures, photos and orientalist paintings. Rich content! There are a lot of good fitness/how to dance books on the market and they are each good for their own reasons. For the Tribal girls....Carolina Nericcio put out a BD gift set that has a small book with excellent illustrations for tribal posture & technique, a great music CD and an instructional DVD. It also includes a belly "jewel" and a pair of lstudent-grade zills. All for about $15.95 from Barnes & Noble. Edited by User 1,837,039 on Aug 30, 2005 11:09 PM |

"The Compleat Belly Dancer" by Marta Schill was the first belly dance book I read. I don't know if it is even in print any more. It has been 30 years since I read it, but I remember it being quite thorough. It came with a record titled "Navel Academy", which I still have. My sister took the book.

The best belly dance book ever is "Grandmother Secrets" by Rosina-Fawzia Al-Rawi.....
It's a memior and its fabulous! I've read it several times and never get sick of it. It deals with a grandmother teaching her granddaughter about oriental dance and becoming a woman. A MUST READ FOR ALL DANCERS! ![]() |
