The Plan:
There have been several Flamingo sightings in the Mud Lake (to the west) and Garfield Bight area (towards the east). This Sunday, the tides are favorable for a attempt over Garfield Bight. We are putting in at Flamingo by no later than 10:00 am, we will paddle east towards Garfield Bight and Alligator Creek. If we get lucky, we'll get to see the big pink birds. Total distance is between 18 - 20 miles
Entrance fee to the park is $10 per car, or $25 for the one-year pass. The pass includes admission at the Shark Valley entrance. There is a $3 per boat launch fee.
Tides for Flamingo, Florida Bay starting with July 5, 2009.
High 3:41 AM 1.3
Low 9:21 AM 0.5
High 2:27 PM 2.8
Low 11:26 PM -0.2
What to bring:
Bring the usual, your boat, your paddle, your PFD (which you will wear at all times), water, water, non-alcoholic beverage, and more water, food, safety equipment you see fit, sunscreen, bug repellent by the gallon, and whatever else you feel you need to ensure a safe day on the water. Don't forget your nautical charts and compass, or GPS. Rain gear is a good idea too.
Please remember, we are not guides. We are just a group of paddle enthusiasts getting together for another great day on the water.
