815 Oyster Bar Ln, Everglades City, FL
The idea is to launch at Everglades City Ranger Station by 8AM and paddle out Sandfly Pass and down to Pavilion Key. Once there, we can explore the island some and have lunch. I figure the trip down will run about 3 hours and a little more coming back.
The weather looks good The Marine forecast for SATURDAY...NORTHEAST WINDS 8 TO 13 KNOTS. SEAS AROUND 2 FEET. BAY AND INLAND WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. The NWS predicts mostly sunny and moderate breezes. It should be excellent. Its a gorgeous area well within the National Park and kept pretty much pristine.
We will have an incoming tide with a low at about 6AM and the high at noon so there should be plenty of water. If we get out early enough we won't have to deal with the full force of the tide. There's usually some boat traffic in the passes but they're mostly courteous to kayakers.
The tide runs against us going through the passes but its manageable. The round trip should run about 20 miles and I'd rate it as an intermediate to advanced trip. You should be able to maintain a steady 3 knots over distance. Bring the usual stuff: PFD, food, water, snacks, camera, etc.
