I had such a good time last weekend at the kayak festival, I'm going back to join the Paradise Coast Paddlers Club for their Third Sunday of The Month outing at the Capri Fish House.
The NWS has the weather forecast as partly cloudy SE wind at 6-11 knots, bay and inland waters a light chop, with a possibility of rain. The tide tables show a low at 4:45AM and the high at 11:05AM. Sunrise is at 7:05 AM. sunset at 7:53 PM. Its about a 90 minute drive from my front door which is just as long as it takes me to get to Flamingo or the Keys.
Its nice living in a place that offers so much opportunity for paddling.
The PCPC is an excellent club with many fine paddlers and they are always good company.
The idea is to offload our boats at the Fish House parking lot, park our vehicles across the road (not in the parking lot) and take off. I want to be on the water by 8AM and that will give us an hour to paddle out to Keewaydin Island and see what's flying, walking, crawling or scuttling around on the beach, after that we can join some of the PCPC people on their trips or explore on our own. I plan to work on strokes and other skills as I'm paddling, I'll be taking pictures of the abundant wildlife too. There are always dolphins around and the occasional bald eagle may put in an appearance.
As always, bring appropriate gear: PFD, water, snacks (we'll eat at the restaurant afterwards), camera, sunscreen, hat, etc.
