Biscayne Bay Sunset Paddle with The Paddle House

We'll paddle out on the bay past Eco-Island where we can watch the sun set behind the city.  Bring your camera (waterproof are best) the photos can be amazing.  This is an ideal paddle for beginners and first timers as well as experienced paddlers.  Conditions will determine the direction of the paddle.

Enjoy a beautiful sunset paddle on Biscayne Bay.

Make sure you bring your lights! The more lights, the better as it will be dark when we return, but you must have at least ONE! The lights also allow other boaters to see us on the water and thus not run us over, thereby ruining our evening!

Bring something to drink and and eat.  A change of dry clothes are a good idea too.

Reservations are Required - RSVP please to The Paddle House

Rentals: Special Club Rentals are available for those in need at the special rate of $30/single and $45/tandem kayaks. You must reserve your boat in advance.  Please call The Paddle House at (786)[masked] or stop on by to reserve your boat and pick-up some lights.  We're at 2753 SW 27th Ave. on the corner of SW 27th Ave and 28th Lane, between Shell Lumber and US1.

Launch Fee: There is a $5 launch fee if you bring your own kayak. Well worth it since parking in the Coconut Grove if included.  Please bring cash.

Parking: Pull a ticket at the Shake-A-Leg Miami lot. Be sure to get your parking validated or you will pay upward of $12 cash at the exit. Parking is free with Shake A Leg validation.  If the lot is full, overflow parking is usually available at Shake-A-Leg Miami.

What to bring: Camera, drinks, snack, your boat, your paddle, your PFD (which you will wear). Don't forget your bug spray, just in case. Wear appropriate clothing (avoid cotton and open toe shoes/flip flops).

The fine print:

By participating in any of our paddles you assume all risks and responsibilities for your personal health and safety and for your equipment; as well as the safety and equipment of your guests. It is important for everyone that each participant be prepared for the trip. Please use your discretion and best judgment when joining an outing. Be sure you are up to the paddle -- physically, mentally and that your equipment is appropriate for the intended trip. All night paddles require lights; even for rentals or borrowed boats. PFD and whistles are required. Intermediate to Advanced Paddles are for those who have substantial experience, skill, and solid knowledge of boat handling and self-rescues. Kayaking has inherent risks. Often, we are the smallest boats on the water. We each individually assume these risks each time we go out on the water. With all that being said, we all look forward to yet another great day on the water.

Amazing how the rain and lightening held off. Turned out to be a perfect evening. As I neared my home in north miami the roads were heavily puddled and a fine drizzle was in progress. We definitely lucked out.

The threat of rain didn't stop us da and we were rewarded with a glorious night on the bay. Thank you Esther.

It looks like we'll have a nice window with conditions deteriorating as the evening progresses. We're going. Expect to be back at about 9:30 pm Anyone who would like to join us after the paddle is welcome. Usually it's Flannigans. See you at boat ramp.

Forecast says 80% thunderstorms, so I am waffling about waiting for a different night. How has this event turned out on previous days with bad weather? Thanks!

If it's bad we will cancel. Sometimes we can pull the plug early. Most of the time we get very close. I can't tell how often we have terrible forecasts and horrible mornings with beautiful evenings. I can't guarantee good weather, but I will cancel if it's bad. Make sure you check the event page frequently, or call the shop before you head out.

Thanks! I have a sitter coming so was trying pointlessly to figure out the weather further in advance - I went ahead and rented my kayak and told her to come. I'm optimistic with the direction the forecast has been changing. :)

Good. Let's pull for acceptable weather. Even if Esther cancels for good reason, let me know when/where you'd like to see the Cuda 14.

If the weather flares up there's always an early after-paddle-that-would-have-been gathering that can be had.

All, I'll bring to the paddle my Jackson Cuda 14' which is for sale since I'm moving to Texas at the end of this month. Wheels, stands and longer paddle are included.
Fitting way to say good-bye to Esther, who does so much for all of us, and to the great outings in south Florida.

My husband received an email about the Thurs. night event being cancelled. I have not. Any info?

Not from me. It's on. If anything changes due to weather it will be the afternoon of paddle. I tend to err on the side of caution but forecasts are seldom correct this far out ;)

OV +1 if the weather holds

Thunderstorms have not been a problem at kayaking locations recently. The storms have been inland while we are on the coast. I prefer to decide at the location before departure

I want to go again and bring some friends. But this time, Peter and I want single kayaks.
