Loxahatchee River Paddle

River Bend Park at 9:00 A.M. Kayaks and canoes are available to rent.  Call (561)[masked] for rental information and they will explain how they work.

At the put in we will discuss arrangements for transport etc. (actually I have posted them here in the notes) If you rent a kayak, the outfitter at the park will pick you up at the take out and take you back to your vehicle.

If you bring your own boat, bring the shortest one you have in that this is a very narrow river mostly with lots of turns and challenges.

This is a great paddle for beginners and lazy paddlers who like to just drift slowly if you like.  We have a great place to stop for lunch about 3/4 the way down the river which is about 8.5 miles total length. If you bring your own boat we will probably drive from the put in to the take out and leave our vehicles with drivers coming back in one vehicle to get in the boats back at the put in. Similar to the way we do the Turner River run. This is a beautiful natural area and one of the last stands of native Cypress in South Florida.

If you have any questions you are welcome to call me at (305) 310-2969. It is important that you be there by 9:00 A.M. sharp in order to not inconvenience the others going.

Please change your status on the website here so it opens up for others. Just posting a note does not cancel you. Thanks

I'm adjusting the time (for anyone on a schedule as such) to between 4 to 6 hours on the water from Riverbend Park to the takeout at Johnathan Dickenson State Park.

Rick how long and hard is this paddle? What time can we expect to finish?

    September 2

    • Rick P.

The paddle is about 8.5 miles. How hard depends on your skills, tolerance and what you are accustomed to. Also the size of your boat. There is a current behind you at most all the way. You can expect to "hopefully" get to the takeout about 2:00 PM. So, If we leave at 10:00 AM and do not take too much time at lunch (there is a place to stop) about 4 hours. It is going to be congested and slow as I see it given the amount of paddlers going. I should have added patience to the top part of the post.

I would like to remind everyone one more time to be there by 9:00 A.M. When you get there take off your boats and stage for the trip on the small beach ready to go down the river and all drivers get ready to drive the vehicles to the takeout to leave. Jesus Socarras is going to be bringing his open pick up back with all the drivers to Riverbend. We will then leave.

hi Rick, I was on the waiting list before you re-opened registration; don't know why I didn't get a spot yet. It is two of us on a tandem kayak, please confirm.
    Thanks.

I opened this up for additional paddlers to include everyone that was on the list. You were as far as I know the last to sign on as waiting. Someone figured a way to override somehow and get in front of you so I do not know what's up with that. Just go ahead and show up at Riverbend and we'll go.

I sent you an email but not sure it went through, anyhoo. I see you talked about using as short a kayak as possible , i have a 19 foot kayak, is that too long for this trek? Is it able to navigate this river? Thanks.

    September 2

    • Rick P.

It will be difficult and really a question of how much do you wish to work at getting it through the tight turns etc. It really then is about skill and determination. That is my best answer.

  • Rick P.

A question was posed regarding acceptable lengths of boats for the Loxahatchchee River trip. I would simply suggest using the smallest kayak available to anyone plying the river since there are many tight curves and the river is very narrow for most of the trip.

For those going on this paddle, we need one person with a large vehicle (preferred pickup truck) to bring all drivers only back to Riverbend Park from the take out at Jonathan Dickenson State Park. Will will then all kayak from Riverbend to the take out and leave from there. If you can do this please call me at (305)[masked] and let me know.

How far is the return shuttle drive?

      September 1

    • Rick P.

      about 20 to 25 minutes.

      September 1

  • Rick P.

I have increased the amount of persons able to go on this paddle hoping that we are able to get all of the drivers back to the put in after dropping off the cars at the take out. This is tricky. After arriving at Riverbend, only one driver per vehicle can drive their vehicle up to the takeout and leave it. Please do not be late (or after 9:00 AM). Will be leaving shortly after 9:00 AM and if you miss the shuttle you will be on your own for the day.
