Introduction

Hi Everyone:) I am a lifetime book lover. Looked over the list of books read in 2011-read many of them and had no one to discuss them with! Looking forward meeting you all. Sounds like a blast to make new friends with a passion for reading.

What is your favorite book to moive adaptation?

Wow, this is a tough question. Mostly because I always prefer the books, and it seems like so few adaptations actually deliver. In fact, I have deliberately avoided seeing certain movies adapted from books I've loved. "Kite Runner" is an example. The book was so good, I couldn't bear to see the movie for fear that it would ruin the feeling I had for it in my heart. I'll go with an easy one-I think "The Help" adaptation was done very well. The characters were very much as I pictured them, and the it was true to the story. "Brokeback Mountain" deserves mention because it was adapted from a short story, yet seemed so true even where certain liberties were taken.

What is your favorite book genre / type of book to read?

Any book that has heart, intelligence, surprises, and is well-written. Fiction or non-fiction. Right now I'm reading a Grisham novel. I've loved Russo, Cornwell, Frey, Picoult, John Irving, Steinbeck, Tolstoy, and countless authors who I'd never heard of before. I am interested in the classics, poetry, and anything to do with current events as well. I can say I've never gotten into sci-fi/fantasy.

Why did you decide to join a bookclub?

Because I want to share my love of reading with others, who seem to enjoy reading the same types of books that I do:) There is nothing better than expanding my understanding and appreciation of a book as a result of having discussed it with someone with a different perspective. Also, to make new friends:)

Are you a Miami/Florida native or new to town? If you are new, what made you move here?

I have lived here since 1997, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Moved here because my ex-husband was from Miami-and of course, to get away from brutal winters!

What's the last book you read cover to cover?

Actually, it was a non-fiction book "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy. I read it for my job, but enjoyed it a great deal because the advice and tools could, and should be applied to any area of life. I was very pleasantly surprised, and intend to read it again.
