Announcing a new Meetup for Pageturners: A Miami Book Club for Women!

What: Mini book club mixer: Heidi Durrow?s The Girl Who Fell from the Sky

When: Thursday, September 30,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Books and Books
265 Aragon Avenue
Miami, FL 33134

Some novels just stay with you ? the characters? voices so clear in your head. Some novels just need to be shared and talked about. Heidi Durrow?s debut novel, The Girl Who Fell from the Sky (Algonquin, $22.95) buy, is just such a book.

It tells the story of Rachel, the daughter of a Danish mother and a black G.I., who becomes the sole survivor of a family tragedy. Growing up in the 1980s, she confronts her identity as a biracial young woman in a world that wants to see her as either black or white.

The clearly crafted story, told in alternating narrators, is the perfect book for book clubs, tailor made for discussion of deeper issues of identity and family, of truth and loss. And so, we?re making Heidi Durrow?s visit on Thursday, September 30, 6:30pm at our Coral Gables store into a Mini Book Club Mixer. Meet other book clubbers and other book club books. We?ll have some Galley Giveaways and a raffle for a set of Advance Reader?s Copies from Algonquin?s fall list.

I heard the author on NPR a few months ago and remember thinking the book sounded great! Anyone want to join me?
