This is the big twelve mile extravaganza that covers all the best features of Clifton Gorge, John Bryan State Park, and Glen Helen.
We will meet at the large Orton Parking Lot, which is at the very end of the road that runs through John Bryan. From there we will head into Clifton Gorge, seeing some great overlooks of the Little Miami River as it rushes through the gorge. Heading back into John Bryan, we will have the river as our companion along rock formations and a well trod trail. As we move into the Glen, we will pass the Grinnell Mill, visit the covered bridge, and work our way to the Glen's visitor's center, taking our lunch break there. After lunch we will visit Pompey's Pillar, the Grottoes, the Yellow Springs, Cascade Falls, and the Pine Forest before winding our way by the Horace Mann monument as we take a nice path back into John Bryan. We will push along the trail and back to the Orton parking lot.
John Youker (from the Dayton Hikers) and his son will be leading a shorter hike to give folks another option (children are welcome to join on this shorter route). Same time and start location so if you want to do the shorter event still arrive at Orton Parking Lot by 10:00 a.m. This hike will be about 6.5 miles long and a bit more moderate in pace. It will take the upper rim trail to the lower bridge, cross over the Little Miami River, hike along the gorge trail to the upper bridge, and then head into Clifton Gorge before returning to the parking lot.
Orton Parking Lot can be found HERE. It is notated by the B marker.
Post hike will be held at Peach's in Yellow Springs. Really great food and an excellent draft beer menu.

A big THANK YOU to Buckeye and Joel for a great hike - LOTS of nice people too!! Those steps were killer! I was sorry to miss the get-together afterward, but a car-pooler had plans later. There's always next time, though... ;-) Looking forward to then!

So thankful that the predicted rain held off and we had a great weather day for hiking in a great place - Thanks to the leader and the sweeper for keeping us all organized! Great after event!

Was a wonderful day for a hike. While I thought I was in shape from the gym-4 days a week--Buckeye proved me wrong for the full 12 miles!!.. Was great to meet so many new people-esp who have the same love of the outdoors as I do..
Was great after party as well..Thank you so very much for the extra efforts to organize. Look forward to more outings with this group.

I just found the post about that this is a moderate hike, so great! But it will be raining and snowing all day. I'm guessing the hike is still on?

How difficult is this hike? I do love to hike and am in reasonable shape but, at age 65, I always worry I will hold others back and/or be miserable trying to keep up! If there isn't a huge amount of "up", I can walk for days! I might take the shorter trail but am coming from Lexington, KY so would prefer the longer one if I thought I could do it. Anyone's guidance for me is hugely appreciated!

I will be leaving from White Oak at 8:00-8:15 AM, and picking up a rider at Cincinnati-Dayton Road & I-75. I have spots remaining for two average-sized people.
After-hike activities to be decided based on how tired I am!
Drop me a line if you are interested in joining us.

I will be leaving from Northside, Cincinnati if anyone would like to ride with me. FYI I will not be attending the post hike gala as I am usually pretty wiped out!

I have tentatively signed up, but am interested in car-pooling with someone to cut down on fuel costs. I am on the west side of Cincinnati, and suggest that a good place to meet up for the trip north is the Tri-County mall.
I am a big guy (6' 9"), so I expect that I'll be driving, but I wanted to put this feeler out there. Rich? Anyone?

I don't know if you received my message before but I live near Xavier also and would love to tag along
