What's your favorite kind of middle eastern music, artist, or song?

Turkish and Kurdish Folk, Rom, Rembetica...I am inclined towards folk music from the middle east and older classical forms. I have been listening to a very good contemporary Lebanese group called Soap Kills.

Do you play a musical instrument or sing (definitely not required for joining, but great to know)

Sadly, I am a very poor musician. I have played drums and cello, but not very well at all. I'm a visual artist and realized that very different parts of the brain are employed for these skills.

I am a huge fan of Middle Eastern Music! I have lived in Turkey and had saw some amazing performances there, from a 3 piece Kurdish band playing in a basement bar to full ensembles playing Ottoman classical music.
