This is just a quick update for those of you interested in participating in NaNoWriMo this year;
We're working on collaborating with a local group of Wrimos
to make our group a super-group for the month of November. What will this mean for us? Well, this means we're going to have multiple meetups a week for your convenience. At the moment, the plan is for our group to host two meetups a week, which are looking like they're going to be Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and there will probably be a few more meetings being held by the official Nanowrimo group held around town, possibly during the day. These meetings are probably not going to include our usual writing exercises, and are going to be more geared toward completing your novel in a social environment. Once we have word when these meetings will be, we'll put them on our calendar so you'll get reminders if those meets are at a better time for you.
Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is for you guys to sign up at the official NaNoWriMo site
. It's a great way to get in touch with other writers from your area, there are fun activities and updates and it's where you log your word count it you want to be considered an official participant, and hopefully winner. This year, the site is not going live until October 10th, due to technical reasons, but I highly recommend that if you have the time, you do not wait until then to create an account. The site isn't busy right now, but come the 10th, or November 1st, things are going to get crazy and there may be outages or crashes. This has happened every year I've participated.
As some of you guys know, I am already really excited and I hope some of you are starting to catch this excitement. I'm hoping a lot of our Meetup Group participates, because this is really fun when there are a lot of people. If you feel like maybe you're not ready, or maybe it'll be too much work or you don't have time, ask yourself this; when will you be ready? When will you have time? When is it going to be less work? I think now is the best time to at least try. No one is going to laugh at you if you don't write a novel in a month. I mean, seriously, this is kind of crazy! Before now, who would have thought they'd be trying to do this? I thought it was impossible when I first tried back in '04 and I can tell you proudly that I didn't finish, but I tried again and kept trying every year because it's ridiculously fun. Even if you don't manage to finish, even if you don't come anywhere close, it will feel so much better to have tried than to sit out for fear of failing. I really hope to see you all at our meetings!
We'll be sure keep you updated on any further Nano-related developments, hope you have a wonderful September!
