As those of you who have joined us for the last few meetings know,
Mid-Michigan Prose and Writing group is starting an anthology project.
Anyone in the group, even if they haven't come recently is eligible to
submit work starting today, keeping in mind that there are a few rules
that need to be observed:
The overall theme for the anthology is going to center around works
inspired by the prompts from our regular Tuesday night meetings. This
doesn't mean that the piece you submit has to be about our
meetings, but needs to stem from one of our exercises or prompts. It
doesn't need to have been written wholly at a meeting either, you can
expand on something you've already started and we're going to start
providing prompts to do at home.
The reason we want to stick strictly to the prompts is because the
idea behind the anthology is to celebrate many writers of different
backgrounds and skill levels writing together and the friendly
atmosphere of our meetings. This sort of means that those who want to
submit pieces to the anthology need to also participate in at least a
few upcoming meetings. If you've been to meetings in the past and feel
like you'd like to submit something, but can't seem to make it to our
regular meeting, please send an email to the organizers and we'll
Currently, the editorial staff consists of Suleman and me. We're
going to be responsible for accepting submissions to the anthology,
organizing and editing it. We're going to be accepting submissions
until September 30th and plan on finishing and publishing the anthology
by March 2013 at the latest.
There are no content restrictions on submissions, but we do request
you use your best judgment. We also request that only polished pieces,
in other words, pieces you wouldn't mind submitting to another
editor/publisher, be submitted. If we find a submitted piece
unacceptable or in need of some editing, we will contact you and discuss
possible changes. We will not edit or alter a piece without discussing
it with the writer. All writers have the right to withdraw their submission until January 15th. More importantly, all writers retain full rights to their works.
The minimum word count for any submission excluding poetry is 250 and the maximum is 3,000. The whole thing will be about 250 pages.
may submit multiple pieces, as many as they like. All profits made
from the sale of the anthology will be split equally amongst writers
whose pieces appear in it.
The editorial staff will strive be fair about all decisions, but all
editorial staff decisions are final. The editors reserve the right to
reject any submission for any reason.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please send an email to either Suleman or me and we will do our best to clear things up.
Good luck everyone!
