The Milwaukee Non-Fiction Book Club Message Board › In two weeks...
...we will meet to discuss Paul Krugman's latest book, "End This Depression Now!". No, Krugman is not urging you to get rid of a mood disorder. He is, however, prescribing the cure for the depressing state in which our economy finds itself now, where the real unemployment rate is close to 15%. Whether you are presently employed or not, it is almost certain that your life is being affected - and will be affected for many years to come - by the current economic depression, so it is only natural that we want to understand how we got where we are now and how do we get out of it. Kruger's prescription is clear and decisive: forget about the public deficit (at least for now), and start a massive program of government spending in infra-structure. Is he right? Come to book club on Sunday April 7 and let us know what you think. Don't have an opinion? You have four options:
1. Read the book, form an opinion, and come share it with us
2. Watch some of Krugman's interviews, form an opinion, and come share it with us
3. Come to book club without an opinion and (hopefully) leave with one
4. Don't read the book, don't come to book club, and never mind this whole economy thing. It's all good, the government has top men working on it. Who? Top. Men.
Some of Krugman's interviews and talks:
P.S.: If you didn't get the "top men" reference and would like an explanation, you have no choice but come to book club.
