Bringing Some Cheer to the Older...as Andy Gets Older (Ages 12 and up)

December 30 Update:
Let's try to finalize the roster this evening, and here's some general information about the event.  Marie stresses that we should all wear closed toe shoes (sneakers), and not sandals/flip flops, etc: Stockbox Info

December 18 Update:
Hey there, for those of you who are signed up "yes", please provide the following information to me by December 22, if at all possible to [masked]:
- Your name and your guest's name, if applicable
- Your e-mail address
- Your emergency contact name and phone number
- Have you volunteered with stockbox building before (Y or N).
Thanks to those that have responded already!
Andy

November 7 Update: We're officially confirmed for January 4 between 9am and noon.  Please take a look at the attached pdf form for additional information:
Stockbox Confirmation

As the day gets closer but no later than the second or third week of December, I'll collect the necessary information from all of you who are confirmed.  Thanks!

*****

As the holiday season ends, most charitable organizations find themselves in a bind because while it's easy to recruit volunteers from Thanksgiving - the end of the calendar year, the giving spirit tends to subside once the calendar flips over.

So...as I turn one year older that weekend, I thought it'd be neat to incorporate giving back just a little bit to the community through Milwaukee's Hunger Task Force by way of making stockboxes for low income senior citizens. (http://www.hungertaskforce.org/volunteer/stockbox-sorts/)

Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee provides a box of nutritious food to almost 10,000 low-income seniors every month. These “Stockboxes” help seniors stretch their budgets and put nutritious food on the table.

Parameters for Group Stockbox Building:
- Groups must be 15-30 people (if group is smaller, they can hook us up with another group)
- Volunteers must be 12 or older (ages 12-15 must be with a parent or adult)
- Most volunteers should be able to lift 30 pounds
- Volunteers must be able to stoop, bend and be on their feet for the 3-hour shift time

After our 3 hour shift, let's plan on having a quick lunch together at Amelia's or somewhere else that's close to the warehouse. We can decide on this as the date draws nearer.

Even a small group of 5 - 10 would be much appreciated by the organization, given the timing (post holiday season). Hope that some of you can make it.

Thanks to all of you who showed up - together with the other group of 6 people, we packed a total of 13 pallets at 40 boxes each for a total of 520 boxes. Each box weighed approximately 31 pounds, so we were able to pack 16,120 pounds of food for the elderly today. Once Marie e-mails me the photos, I'll distribute here. Thanks again!

    3) Be sure to look over this tidbit of information. It has directions, general info, etc. Please wear closed toe shoes/boots, and not sandals.

    http://app6.websitetonight.com/projects/3/2/8/4/3284826/uploads/Gmail_-_Hunger_Task_Force_Stockbox_Volunteer_Check-In.pdf

    4) Let's plan on checking in at the prescribed time of 8:45 instead of all showing up at 9am.

    5) I wouldn't be adverse to doing something for lunch afterwards. There are a few neat places on Layton with a view of the airport runways we could try out (Amelias and Brass Monkey come to mind).

See you all tomorrow at 8:45, and thanks for contributing your time and energy to this endeavor. Cheers. Andy I'm at[masked] if you need to reach me. It's a forwarding service, so I can't receive texts.

    Hi All,

A few last things for tomorrow's event:

    1) I have the following people confirmed with their contact information:
Andy C, Jennifer S, Jason F, Cyndi L, Katherine R, Wil W, Justin N, Claudia M, Kishore P, Steve Z, Shaneela M, Nicki M, Trish P, Javier I, and Joyce N. Let me know if you've sent me your information and I just overlooked it and/or forgot to add it to the final roster.

    2) If you're still a "Yes" and still want to come but have yet to e-mail me with your info, there's likely time/space to still sign up. I told Marie that I'd be bringing a total of 22, so it looks like we can squeeze in another 3 - 5 people, if interested. Just be sure that you email me at [masked] with your name, e-mail address, your emergency contact name and phone #, and if you've ever volunteered before with stockbox building.

Last Call: To speed up the check in process, if you all could provide the following info to [masked] by this evening (Monday December 30), that'd be awesome. So far I have 14 people confirmed, which is a decent sized group. - Your name and your guest's name, if applicable
    - Your e-mail address
    - Your emergency contact name and phone number
    - Have you volunteered with stockbox building before (Y or N).

Thanks to those that have responded already!
