As the day gets closer but no later than the second or third week of December, I'll collect the necessary information from all of you who are confirmed. Thanks!
As the holiday season ends, most charitable organizations find themselves in a bind because while it's easy to recruit volunteers from Thanksgiving - the end of the calendar year, the giving spirit tends to subside once the calendar flips over.
So...as I turn one year older that weekend, I thought it'd be neat to incorporate giving back just a little bit to the community through Milwaukee's Hunger Task Force by way of making stockboxes for low income senior citizens. (http://www.hungertaskforce.org/volunteer/stockbox-sorts/)
Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee provides a box of nutritious food to almost 10,000 low-income seniors every month. These “Stockboxes” help seniors stretch their budgets and put nutritious food on the table.
Parameters for Group Stockbox Building:
- Groups must be 15-30 people (if group is smaller, they can hook us up with another group)
- Volunteers must be 12 or older (ages 12-15 must be with a parent or adult)
- Most volunteers should be able to lift 30 pounds
- Volunteers must be able to stoop, bend and be on their feet for the 3-hour shift time
After our 3 hour shift, let's plan on having a quick lunch together at Amelia's or somewhere else that's close to the warehouse. We can decide on this as the date draws nearer.
Even a small group of 5 - 10 would be much appreciated by the organization, given the timing (post holiday season). Hope that some of you can make it.
