LEGAL CONCEPTS FOR FREELANCERS/SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
For our December Meetup, we will be joined by the Graphic Design Meetup and Web 414 for a presentation/Q&A session by attorney Eido Walny of Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP on basic concepts every freelancer/small business owner needs to be aware of to protect themselves legally. Topics of the presentation will include:

* What to look for in agreements & contracts
* Tips to make sure you get paid
* Common legal pitfalls and how to avoid them
Eido M. Walny, AEP, EPLS, is an attorney with Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP, a Milwaukee based national law firm. Mr. Walny received his J.D. from The Boston University School of Law, where he was the Executive Articles Editor of Boston University International Law Journal and participated in Moot Court. He earned an A.B. in Political Science, with honors, from The University of Chicago. Mr. Walny’s practice focuses on estate planning, business succession and asset protection.
Mr. Walny’s transactional experience includes negotiation of large corporate acquisitions and transactions, including an international deal valued at over $20 million and facilitation of commercial and residential real estate deals, including one worth over $3.5 million. He has prepared security, employment, and confidentiality agreements, as well. Mr. Walny’s practice includes selecting and implementing the appropriate form of business entity for business and tax planning purposes; preparation of organizational documents and forming limited liability companies, corporations, and partnerships; and formation of non-profit corporations and preparation of applications for obtaining recognition of tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service.
He is admitted to all Wisconsin State Courts, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Mr. Walny is a member of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the American Bar Association. His professional memberships also include the National Association of Estate Planners and Counsels, Milwaukee Bar Association, Waukesha County Bar Association, Milwaukee Estate Planning Forum, and the Waukesha County Estate Planning Council. He is a frequent speaker on estate planning, charitable giving methods, and topical business issues. Mr. Walny also serves on the Associate Board of Directors of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, the Bayside Planning Commission, and the Boards of Directors of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, and Artworks for Milwaukee, which utilizes the arts to teach job skills to at-risk youth. Mr. Walny has also been honored as a charter member by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation Mueller Society in recognition of the advancement of philanthropy.
