What type of meditation is taught? What if I already have my own way of practicing meditation?
We practice Mindfulness Meditation, mainly mindfulness of breathing. The main purpose of this meditation is to refine and balance the attention and calm the mind. That is why it is usu-ally considered a first step into the meditative path. This meditation does not interfere with any other practice. The class is suitable for all levels.

Do I need special clothing?
No. Wear simply some comfortable clothing. Chairs are available but also mats, cushions, benches.

Are you certified as a meditation teacher?
I am certified as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher, by Santa Barbara Institute for Conscious-ness Studies. I was taught by B Alan Wallace, Phd and Paul Ekman, Phd. I am also an MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) teacher, certified by the Institute for Mindfulness Based Approaches (IMA). I have an educational background as a psychologist, with interest in brain and mind interventions and have a regular meditation practice. I offer services for individuals, organizations and community at large.

A pleasantly-sized group of disparate yet similarly-minded individuals, including a couple of 'old hands' along with the newcomers including myself -- a good mix. Also good to see men adequately represented. I felt that Ela gave great guidance during the meditation session; not so much instruction as occasional and non-intrusive reminders, hints and reassurances about what we may have been experiencing in ourselves, all uncannily well-timed and apropos. Ela's commonsense approach to meditation holds appeal for me: secular, neuroscientifically fact-based, without the slightest whiff of incense or curry powder! That having been said, I might suggest burning a symbolic candle (unscented, natch!) next time. Also, Ela, if you could speak up a little louder on occasion? The room ceiling tends to swallow sound. I'm rating this with four out of five stars, on principle: where else is there to go, otherwise? Thank you very much, Ela!
