MiniBar on Open Source
Open Source software has come a long way, since its inception more than 20 years ago. Now mission critical parts of the Internet run on Open Source and companies like MySql are not only a phenomenal business success, but have shown to be able to alter the state of entire market segments of what used to be called the IT sector. This MiniBar will focus on Open Source Business strategies and practices, with the aim to inform about how both to make a business out of OS software and to build a business using OS.
Presenters:
Peter Brownell - CTO School of Everything - Peter is part of the team that founded web start up School of Everything and has lead the development of its web platform in the Open Source content management framework Drupal. He will explore challenges and opportunities of using an OS framework such as Drupal in a commercial, start-up environment.
Jeremy Ruston - Osmosoft (OS innovation at BT) - Jeremy heads a team of programmers developing Open Source programs, which are used by BT business clients. Osmosoft was a small company acquired by BT in 2007. He will focus on big and small companies interact in an Open Source context.
Steve George -Ubuntu - Steve will introduce how small businesses and start ups can benefit from using Ubuntu
David Gildeh - SambaStream - David Gildeh is one of the founders of SambaStream. SambaJAM is an advanced collaboration platform that is built on a leading OS enterprise platform used by Fortune500 companies.
