Debate Class: Resolved: Intelligent Design is science. - Sept 19 2 p.m. - Hosmer

We continue our debate class with another debate. Feel free to participate in the audience to learn the skills of a structured debate and how it can help you in your daily dialog with those you may be trying to persuade.

This month, debaters will be arguing whether Intelligent Design is science.

Our location has moved this month, due to scheduling conflicts at other libraries we have used, however, an effort will be made to keep the classes in the south Minneapolis area. Hosmer Library is located just east of 35W, on 36th St. There should be street parking available.

I had a good time with this debate. Unfortunately, I had to leave early due to a prior engagement (a Pirate Day celebration, actually), but thoroughly enjoyed the debate and being outdoors, despite the planes. There were a couple points I picked up that I am excited to learn more about, and the debaters were highly informative.

The issue was never fully debated. Neither debater set out an agreed upon definition of science (especially the scientific method and not the body of scientific knowledge) or discussed how ID met or didn't meet this standard.

It was nice to be outside in spite of the noise. Grant and Ted were both well prepared and fun to listen to. Thanks!

The room at the library would seat only 8, so we had to move to nearby Powderhorn Park. It was a lovely day, and this could have been a perfect setting, but around mid-afternoon planes were flying overhead continuously, drowning out the speakers.
