Freethought Picnic for All Ages III - August 15, noon, Columbia Park, Mpls

Columbia Park (map)

Selected By: Jack C.

This is the third and last of three summer picnics for all of us atheists and humanists (sponsored by Minnesota Atheists). There's a great playground for kids, a basketball hoop, fields for badminton, ultimate frisbee, soccer, bocce ball and other games, and a picnic area for dining, board games, and lots of conversation! If you've been to the first two picnics, you know how much fun they are!

The picnic is a potluck. Please bring some edibles to share. The shelter has electricity and a sink.

Families: in your RSVP, please mention the ages and genders of your children

Athletes (all levels): please tell us what sport you prefer so we can get a game going (at the last two we had Badminton, Bocce Ball, Ultimate Frisbee, Basketball, and more)

Board gamers: please let us know what games you enjoy and any you can bring

Musicians: please mention which musical instrument you plan to bring for an impromptu jam

COLUMBIA PARK is located in northeast Minneapolis.
► Take Central Ave NE (MN Hwy. 65) to Columbia Pkwy. (Between 36th Ave. and 37th Ave.)

► Take the first left onto the service road (you will see a sign for “800 Columbia Blvd.”). Proceed to the second parking lot on your left (0.2 miles). (You should see us by the shelter on the hill!)

See you on Sunday, August 15th!

Oh, I fasiled to put my kid's info in the RSVP. My kids are 5, 3.5 and 2. They haven't identified their gender yet, still a little young for that!

I think I will bring my drum and my husband. And if anyone is interested in activities afterward, the Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival starts at three in Como Park. I will be demonstrating Aikido.

Lots of fun with a lot of a bunch of jolly and thoughtful atheists (some even helped me watch my dog and kids!). My boys and I loved tossing the frisbee around just before we left. And kudos to the good lord for giving us such a beautiful day! ;)

Even though I rarely make any of the get togethers and don't really know anyone personally, I'm always made to feel welcome and enjoy myself. I appreciate that.

It was a great day for a picnic and a fun way to connect with other non-believers. Bocce ball would have been great because it was too windy for much of anything else. I think I will buy a set and bring it to next June's picnic. Also, the food was absolutely wonderful.
