Announcing a new Meetup for Minnesota Atheists Meetup Group!

What: Dr. Hector Avalos "Can Science Prove Prayer Works?" Sun Oct 18 2 p.m. Southdale

When: October 18,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
Southdale Library
7001 York Ave South
Edina, MN 55435
[masked]

Each October for the past two years, we have welcomed Dr. Hector Avalos to Minnesota to present on interesting topics, such as biblical archeology and on Creationism. He's a professor of Religious Studies at Iowa State University, co-authored a statement against Intelligent Design in 2005 which was signed by 130 faculty members at Iowa State University and was influential in denying tenure to Dr. Guillermo Gonzales a dangerous promoter of Intelligent Design who is a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute and whose tenure would legitimize the promotion of Intelligent Design at the University level.

He is also a former Pentacostal child preacher and evangelist. Rather then use his public speaking skills for ministering, he thankfully provides entertaining, educational and through lessons we can all get something from.

We will be holding our Monthly Membership Business Meeting before the event at 1 p.m. There will be time to talk with fellow atheists before and after Dr. Avalos' presentation, so this is a great first meeting if you've never been before. We will also be gathering for an early dinner after the presentation around 4 p.m. The location will be decided at the event, although Q.Cumber's Buffet is a likely candidate, as the owner has been a supporter of our radio program and is a member.

I look forward to seeing you there!
