Minnesota Atheists Meetup Group Message Board › New Meetup: De-Baptism and Breakfast: Celebrate Reason and Sanity at Al Bake
Saint Paul, MN
Announcing a new Meetup for Minnesota Atheists Meetup Group!
What: De-Baptism and Breakfast: Celebrate Reason and Sanity at Al Baker's in Eagan
When: Saturday, October 30, 2010 9:30 AM
Where: Al Baker's Restaurant
3434 Washington Drive
Eagan, MN 55122
On Saturday, October 30 a Rally to Restore Sanity will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. There will also be a March to Keep Fear Alive held at the same place at the same time. Both events (the latter one satirically mocking Glenn Beck's recent "tea party" rally) are being held for those of us who have grown tired of the anti-intellectual, hyperbolic shouting that seems to be drowning out reasonable discourse. Examples of national insanity include policymakers proudly attacking and stifling science while embracing ancient Mediterranean folklore; also, ideological activists invoking popularly accepted hateful religious indoctrination that deny equal treatment to gays and lesbians.
Instead of driving out to Washington, D.C. for the worthy rally, you can shave a thousand miles off your drive and come on down to Eagan, Minnesota where the Minnesota Atheists will be holding a much smaller and scaled down satellite event at Al Baker's Restaurant where breakfast and Bloody Marys will be available. This will also feature our second ever De-Baptism celebration. We'll filter in at 9:30am - 10:00am and enjoy a satisfying, godless communion from Al Baker's menu with the de-baptism ceremony to begin around 11:00am.
If you have never officially renounced your baptism, you'll enjoy this cathartic celebration among friends as the Hair Dryer of Reason bestows it's warm flow of water drying air over the very head that had been dipped in the baptismal waters of your past. Those who have never been baptized, or have already been de-baptized, are encouraged to participate in this de-baptism ceremony as well because you simply cannot get de-baptized too many times!
Everybody who participates in this de-baptism will receive an originally designed de-baptism certificate (different than the one participants received in May) that both commemorates your renunciation of archaic, ethnocentric myths born out of fear and that celebrates the idea of restoring national sanity and reason.
