Young Knives

If you were to ask me what I knew about Ashby-de-la-Zouch - I could only tell you about this band!

So glad the band are still going and are coming to Edinburgh.

I got into this band 8 years ago. Admittedly since I stopped reading NME and listening to XFM London, so I've lost touch with most bands who emerged in that golden time for British indie bands.

They are a three-piece, so this lends itself to a more raw, punky sound mixed with funny lyrics. The band always seemed unlikely musicians, often dressing like accountants. Their debut album had some great tunes. My favourite was 'Loughborough Suicide' - what a name for a song! Also notable are the singles, 'Here Comes the Rumour Mill', 'The Decision' and 'She's Attracted to'.

'Terra Firma' headed up the second album. Its a departure from their debut, with more of a political dimension. Despite its 2007 release, the 2007 subject matter remains relevant - if you deep and meaningful lyrics matter to you.

Never heard about them again until now and am catching up on post-2007 material.

No word yet on support.

As there are a few of us going to this, I suggest we meet in the Guildford Arms (side street opposite Balmoral Hotel). Its just a minutes walk from the venue and they have a super drinks choice :) I'll be there at 7.
