Last meeting we had a surprise guest/member from the MySQL Falcon team - and at this meeting we hope to have a surprise guest/member from Sun Microsystems!

Who attended?

  • 13 attendees
    •  Great to have MySQL and Sun employees on hand to discuss the recent acquisition plans of MySQL by Sun. Tim Stormoen offered uplifting figures for OSS careers. Charlie Sykora gave a useful demo of Zmanda, with a Zmanda employee on hand for comments.
    •  Obviously, more attendees will make it a more dynamic meeting. David is a very effective and engaging MC. I suggest during the intro that he encourage attendees to describe how they use MySQL, what other databases they use, etc. In fact, that could be the theme for the next meeting: User Stories! Each attendee could talk briefly about how they use the product, their experience with it, etc. Another meeting theme idea: Lessons Learned. Real-world examples of successes, failures. People love hearing about others travails, if only because they ring true. Now that Sun and MySQL attend, we can also elicit "nice-to-have" wishlists, suggestions, gripes, etc.
    •  The people were great and it was a good time. The presentations were informative and certainly was an overall good experience.
    •  I enjoyed meeting David and the other attendees.
