July 1st User Group Meeting - Doctrine 2 & Gearman

Come join us on Thursday July 1st 2010 for the Minnesota PHP User Group at our sponsors location: Nerdery Interactive Labs, a division of Sierra Bravo!
Welcome and Introductions As we always have to start.
Doctrine 2 - Justin Hendrickson
http://www.doctrine-p... Doctrine 2 is currently in beta 2 and is a substantial change from Doctrine 1. Here you will learn how to use Doctrine 2 ORM. (It requires PHP 5.3).
Gearman - Mike Willbanks
http://gearman.org... Ever wonder how to offload work or to get rid of some of those silly cron processes? This may be your talk. Here we will discuss getting started with gearman, handling jobs synchronously as well as asynchronously and monitoring through the gearman administrative protocol.
We Need Help! We need your help to offer to speak about a particular topic and/or give ideas for a topic this will help us to get better organized and ensure monthly meetings.
Topics / Ideas There are so many topics ranging from everything under the sun. Here are some general ideas:

  • Software [as a service]: CMS', CRMs, Cloud (AWS, Rackspace, etc)...

  • Code Management: Continuous Integration, Unit Testing, Functional Testing, Version Control, Deployments, Coding Standards, etc.

  • Environment: Databases, Key Value Stores, Job Servers, Caches, Application Servers...

  • Integrations: Facebook, Twitter, Insert other big names here....

Did you know you can post ideas on the meetup site? It is easy! Just specify if you would like to talk about it or if you would like someone else to speak about it. There are several people that do not mind speaking on different topics:

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
