March MNPHP Meetup

Meet and Greet in the Cafeteria

The Nerdery provides us pizza and non-alcoholic drinks; this is a great time to network, discuss your latest projects and just hang out for a bit prior to all of the knowledge exchanging.

Intro to Version Control - Jonathan Sundquist

A topic that started off as a subversion vs. git and has morphed into an introduction to version control.  If you're not currently leveraging version control, you need to start!  Subversion which has been the defacto standard in version control for many years has now been shifting to git thanks to the infamous github.

What's New in PHP 5.4 - Mike Stowe

A quick overview of some of the new features in PHP 5.4 including binary notation, short-hand arrays, dereferencing arrays, traits, class instantiation chaining, session_status, sessionHandler, session file upload tracking, and the new built in web server.

Banter and networking, ask the questions on your mind and then we will get out of there.  Some people may be planning on hitting a local bar or otherwise going to their cozy homes and I'm sure they will let you know which they are up to!

First Time?

If you have not been to MNPHP before and you plan on coming; let me be the first to say welcome to our user group.  We generally meet the first Thursday of every month; this Thursday is an exception.  We certainly enjoy meeting people from the community.  Irregardless if you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced or simply just coming to learn more about it; we are glad to have you.  All you need to bring is yourself, your personality and like most programmers you'll likely end up bringing a laptop.

Location, Location, Location

Daniel has created a poll to see if we were to switch locations or rotate among locations how this might impact attendance.  Please take a moment to take the poll.

I've created a poll to help sort out what to do for July, August, and the future:

    You're right, Git is better.

Both topics were good and the discussion was lively and engaged - exactly what we want from our group.
We addressed a couple of the problems that we had the previous meetup, and I think we can do even better.
I will try to get a document together with tips for presenters well before the April meetup, in the hopes that future presenters can avoid some "usability" problems and just focus on their content.
Thanks again to our presenters. This group would be weak without you.

Here are the slides from the PHP 5.4 presentation. Sorry about the code visibility issues.
