Mobilista!

On Monday, June 7th, Mobile Monday Amsterdam will organize MoMo #16: The Mobile Distribution Game. It is time to share the line-up and the release date for the RSVPs! Read on to find out who will be on stage and when you can grab your RSVP.

In short
* Date: Monday, June 7th 2010
* Time: 15:50 - 19:00 (15:00 doors open, drinks till 21:00)
* Location: De Duif (Prinsengracht 754, Amsterdam | map)
* RSVPs available at Meetup on Monday, May 24th - 12.00 sharp

Why the Mobile Distribution Game?
Simple: The mobile space is very fragmented. Since Microsoft released its mobile OS to compete with the Palm OS 10 years ago mobile developers have strugled to support multiple mobile platforms, each with a relatively small user base and a large developer learning curve. Because of this mobile content distribution is a hard game to enter. We've got some of the best players in the game sharing their knowledge at our next event.

Speakers
For this event we have a fine blend of speakers to share insights from the most relevant mobile distribution angles:
* Bill Scott (LinkedIn) - SVP Business Development at GetJar
* Om Malik (LinkedIn, Twitter) - Founder of GigaOM.com, Venture Partner at True Ventures
* Salim Ismail (LinkedIn, Twitter) - Director Singularity University (NASA and Google), previously VP at Yahoo! Brickhouse (incubator)
* Roeland Stekelenburg (LinkedIn, Twitter) - Head of New Media at NOS
* Vincent Hoogsteder (LinkedIn, Twitter) - Co-founder of Distimo
* *HARR* - Sorry, we can't share who will be our wildcard speaker ;)

How to get your RSVP
Mobile Monday Amsterdam loves to welcome you at this event. The event is free, but you will need to RSVP in order to attend. RSVPs will be available on Monday, May 24th (12:00 sharp) at Meetup. Make sure to RSVP in time. Previous events sold out in under 15 minutes. To help you remind the RSVP release time, we have a RSVP Reminder per SMS. Read more about it here.

We hope to welcome you on June 7th!

Cheers,

Marc, Yuri, Martijn, Maarten and Sam
-- Mobile Monday Amsterdam

PS. We could not do this without the support of our partners: GetJar, Vodafone, Triple IT, Iamsterdam and CM.

Inspiring speech from Rickard Falkvinge, leader/founder of the Pirate Party about civil rights.

Rickard Falkvinge was indeed interesting. They need to think of themselves as a civic society more like mysociety.org rather than a political party. They've done a lot of organise practical workshops to show artists how sharing is a better business model than current copyright. But most people don't know this. Its a shame too that the Dutch arm of the same political party is weak and inexperienced...geen stijl makes fools out them. Not ready for primetime.

Vincent (Distimo) & Roeland (NOS) gave a good overview of the problem with mobile distribution: splintering of possibilities both by content and by platforms and channels. A few words of Vincent, Bill & Om pointed to the way to go about it, and I'd love to have more info on that - so if you've knowledge, experience or sources, please contact me. Furthermore the more-or-less off-topic speakers (Salim, Rickard) gave highly interesting talks. Thanks for organising, guys! Nice people around, too.

Good gig in my view. Some technical glitches that we work out in our future events, check. Off topic talks are not so off topic as it seems on the surface, it is all about mobile: mobile singularity convergence, mobile legal issues etc. The audience was great and mostly satisfied. Now time for a well deserverd summer break and see you all again on September 6th. Thanks for your attendance and comments!

Aaaarrr Matey! Nice finishing touch, but little on App Stores, which I hoped for... see you next event?

As usual: interesting and relevant speakers. This is the one event where I learn most. Would have scored a "Great" if the event had not moved to the Duif. I don't like the sound and visuals there, and the intimate feeling of the Rode Hoed is gone, too. Oh well, I'm a Catholic boy and I've known the Duif as a functioning church. Maybe that add to the gloom ;-)

It's getting a little bit less frontrunner status, but I guess I'm spoiled over the last 3 years. Could it be that mobile is becoming to mainstream and singularity is the new fronteer? Love they way you are now crowdsourcing and trying other ways to present and share knowledge. Making you less dependent on your own networks and bring in other "curators" and ideas. And thanks, you have been a great place for inspiration over the last 3 years.

Meetup: great topics and speakers! The live WWDC blogging: was okay, too bad the dialogues were not audible but hey: in a church with a couple of hundred people chatting during drinks... can't blame the technicians!
  • Pepijn van der Spek
Great speakers, but not always a clear link with the subject 'The Mobile Distribution Game'.
  • Ron Verweij
Very informative on App's vs. mobile browsing. High level of speakers but this time nobody blew me of my feet (ok, we get spoiled by the high level so far). So again MoMoAms was good and inspiring as always.

    Great mix of speakers.

Was hoping for some more in depth on the Mobile Distribution Game. Developing for Apple and you are highly dependent on Apple. Developing for Android, how to fit on all the screens. Developing for a (currently) small player i.e. Bada for go for the big ones (Apple/Andoird). What choices to make? How to distribute most effectively? Wish those kind of questions where addressed.

excellent afternoon, great speakers and lost of fun! thanks guys!
  • bert de boer
good vibes, lovely place "de Duif" and engaging speakers
  • Alfons de Jong
Well organised - good speakers !
  • Marc Brouwer
A good mix of technology, sociallife and science.

Great subject, but I was missing the notion of 'premium apps'. Current experiences were all based on small-screen devices with low end prices apps. For the IPad there are various higher pricess apps available, and I was wondering where they fit in. As a general conclusion I would state that the difference between application and content has gone, at least for mobile devices. There was also an opportunity to touch the various payment schemes for apps and content but as Om Malik stated, much of the information was focussed on 'today'. During the presentations I would really like to have the 'second screen on your lap' as described in the NOS presentation. This could contain the mentioned sites and movies. Today Tweetdeck was my second screen which might not fit the presentation well and since some speakers were hard to understand, due to bad sound, this wasn't optimal.
  • Dimphy
I did like the first part, however the second part was less interesting for me. The interview was too long and the last presentation had to much history for me. I like to be in the present. The location and atmospher were good.
  • Michael van Wetering
Another good MoMo taking the theme one step further than most organizers would, good job guys! Best speakers: Om Malik (good interview by yuri!) en Roeland Stekelenburg.
  • Ivo Langbroek
Not all talks were on topic, however the ones that weren't were most interesting.
  • Willem-Jan Spijkerman
    Great line-up again!
  • Samuel Vissotto
Great overview of the mobile apps business in the beginning!
  • Dennis Kokkelink

Good kickoff speeches today. You need to put the lapel miles much closer to avoid the howl around in the church. But small point
