Let's see A Good Day To Die Hard at the Capital Theater
Note: This was originally the Meetup to go see John Dies At The End but unfortunately, the Capital changed the schedule. Theaters do that sometimes when they think a film isn't providing the draw that they had hoped for. My apologies to the folks that were looking forward to seeing this quirky little film.
Instead, I would like to suggest that we see some good old fashioned, suspend-your-disbelief, action adventure escapism. A Good Day To Die Hard, the newest release in the Bruce Willis/John McLane/Die Hard franchise fits perfectly . Interesting trivia: do you realize that the first Bruce Willis Die Hard movie was made in 1988, 25 years ago?
Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack - unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes. Yada yada yada. You really don't care about plots with a movie like this, do you?
Despite the recent popularity of washed up old man action adventure movies (Stallone's Bullet to the Head, Schwartneggers's Last Stand, The Expendables, etc), I suspect that the producers of A Good Day to Die Hard, are testing the waters to see if they can hand off the franchise to a younger hero, in this case Jai Courtney, who plays McLane's son. The Die Hard franchise has just been way too profitable to retire.
Showtime is 7:10
If anyone would like to enjoy a quick appetizer or adult beverage before the show, let’s plan on meeting at the Luxe ( 6605 Detroit) across the street from the Capitol. Let’s shoot for 6:00 and I’ll try to get there earlier to watch for anyone who signs up
