Let's See Oblivion at Tower City Cinemas

This is going to be a huge  science fiction movie year. Everyone who's anyone is doing one and first out of the gate is Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman in Oblivion. Let's plan on seeing this at Tower City.

Synopsis

Set in the distant future, a court martial sends a veteran soldier ( Tom Cruise)  to a distant planet, where he has to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself.

One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands.

UPDATE Tower City Cinemas posted movie times and it looks like the movie is at 7:10 ( not 7:00 as previously reported)

If anyone wants to meet before the movie for an appetizer or adult beverage, let's meet at the Hard Rock Cafe in Tower City at 6:00.  We'll be in the bar area. I'll try to get there at 5:30 to watch for anyone who signs up.

Hi everybody. I got there alittle late. I suspect everyone was probably in 1 row I saw about the middle in theater 4. I had to use the restroom after the show & wen I got back, all were gone. :-( > But the movie was good. I was expecting more action, but realized it evolved into a love story. Anyway, sorry I missed everyone, but glad I saw the movie. See you all in the future.

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for the warm welcome, it was nice meeting everyone. I look forward to future events.

Thanks to Tom Cruise, otherwise it would be just another B movie and goes the way with the title "oblivion". A stars like Cruise and Freeman made this movie entertaining and enjoyable.

The special effects were outstanding however the plot was confusing. If you didn't spend time thinking about what the picture was about it was just okay.

I agree, I was quite disappointed in the plot.

It was nice to see some happy faces. Meeting at the Hard Rock cafe first was nice so we could chat about other movie related topics while getting to meet new people.

I am still on the maybe list so far! I won't know for sure until Sunday anyway. I hate waiting until the last minute to say yea or nay. If I do get to go, I will probably take the rapid too, but it is the Red line for me.

Would like to go, but cannot make it all the way downtown during the week by that time. This being a very visual movie, would've been better at Valley View on the bigger screen. Might be better to go downtown on the weekend when there is more time.

Sadly, something else came up, so, going to miss this one. Price one pays for being a Massage Practitioner.

I plan to come down to Hard Rock Cafe early to have a drink and relax. Do you need to "sign up"? as posted above

    April 17, 2013

    • Pat

Nope, we're very informal. If you let me know you're coming though, I can watch for you and introduce you to whoever else shows up.

Scott, Terri and I are going to park in the casino lot instead and gamble to pay the fee. :). We won't be taking the rapid, but I don't know about other people. Thanks for the offers, and see you there.

Thanks Terri, at least I know now.

Would anyone be interested in joining up to drive to Cleveland together, or meet and take the rapids together? I'm near Hudson, Twinsburg, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls...

Catching the rapid isn't to difficult, and it runs about every 20 minutes. I am a commuter, bus, rapid, I am used to it. I wouldn't mind heading that direction to meet you both, and guide you in to Tower City.

Question is: do you wish to get there in time for the movie, or also with some time to meet people at Hard Rock? And, if so, is Van Aken the starting point? I map everything out ahead of time

Mine is a tentative yes. Might not be the best night for me.

    April 16, 2013

  • Jason

    Double booked that night, sorry.

    April 13, 2013

  • Crystal

Someone please keep your fingers crossed that nothing will come up for me and I can't make it again. ha ha ha! I have not seen a movie at Tower City for over 10 years now. The last time I went I was able to get in for free (my husband worked there in high school). I bet the ticket prices went up a bit since then (it's not free anymore).

This is somewhat tentative for now.

We move the theater locations around mainly for diversity. I am certainly more than willing to let the members choose a specific theater but here's the catch: it has to be EVERYONE'S choice.

    March 23, 2013

    • Terri C.

It makes no difference to me since I'm not driving:)

      1 · March 24, 2013

  • Jan

I'm fine with anything, I just hate driving to downtown, I don't like to pay for parking, and the theater isn't like Valley View, stadium seats, not sure if downtown has stadium seating. I'm a short person, lol.

    March 23, 2013

  • Pat

Here's another thought -- and I'm just throwing this out for discussion-- anyone could decide on a theater and movie and as long as they are willing to act as point of contact, I'd be more than happy to post it on this Meetup site.

    March 23, 2013

  • Pam

I'm not in charge - but valley view is closer for me, so I would be OK with it.

    March 23, 2013

  • Jan

I have a ? is there anyway they would change it to Valley View? or is that out of the question? I don't know where everyone is coming from.

    March 23, 2013

  • Pat

Last time I used the parking lot below Tower City and just took the escalator up. They validate at the movie and it only cost me two or three bucks even though we stayed late. You have to go in the back way off of Canal Rd using Carter Road through the Flats.

    March 21, 2013

  • Pam

Where can we park that would be inexpensive and safe to come out to after the movie?
