Let's see Cloud Atlas at the Cinemark in Valley View.( Note: the location is changed from the Capital where we originally had this scheduled; see update below)
The Wachowski Brothers* ( the Matrix trilogy, V For Vendetta, Speed Racer) are back with a thought provoking, cross-genre film that doesn't easily fit into any single category.
Cloud Atlas is an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution. Everything is connected: an 1849 diary of an ocean voyage across the Pacific; letters from a composer to his friend; a thriller about a murder at a nuclear power plant; a farce about a publisher in a nursing home; a rebellious clone in futuristic Korea; and the tale of a tribe living in post-apocalyptic Hawaii, far in the future.
With an all star cast of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving and Susan Sarendon, I guess you'd have to call this a philosophical and existentialist science fiction mystery drama romantic comedy that spans over ten centuries.
Originally released as an independent film at the Toronto Film Festival, advance reviews are saying that. like Avatar, Cloud Atlas is taking the storytelling capabilities of the cinema to new levels. Reviews include phrases like "powerful spectacle" and "bold, audacious tour-de-force in cinematic storytelling"
Aw heck, I can't describe this movie. Just watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQFAPeaJOf8
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Aaaargh. We had this originally scheduled for the Capital Theater on West 65th based on their earlier announcements, but one of our members just found out that it is now only showing at the Chagrin. Inconvenient as it is, we have to reschedule this for the Cinemark ( 6001 Canal Road) in Valley View. We'll plan on going to the 7:45 show.
We'll also need to change where we're meeting if you'd like to have a drink or an appetizer before the movie. Let's plan on meeting at the Quaker Steak and Lube at 5935 Canal Road, at the front of the parking lot where the Cinemark is located at around 6:00. Look for a small 8 x 11 Meetup sign on the table . If you're lost or can't find me, call or text me at (216)[masked]
Sorry for this late change, but unfortunately, I don't have control over changes in theater scheduling
*Side note: Yes, I know that since Larry Wachowski underwent a sex change operation and is now Lana, they should be called the Wachowki siblings, not brothers. Old habits die hard
