NEBRASKA, Best Picture of the Year Nominee, Sat 29th Mar @6:45 FREE!! Plus after party!!!

A surprisingly talented Will Forte plays the son of a cantankerous old drunk, the fascinating Bruce Dern, as he takes a road trip to claim a million-dollar sweepstakes prize that no one thinks he's won. This is Alexander Payne at the top of his game.

Elegant in its simplicity and poetic in its message, Nebraska adds another stirringly resonant chapter to Alexander Payne's remarkable filmography.

Synopsis:

Director Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants) takes the helm for this road trip drama starring Bruce Dern as a tempestuous Missouri father who's convinced he's won a million dollar magazine sweepstakes, and Will Forte as the son who grudgingly agrees to drive him to Nebraska to claim his winnings. Bob Odenkirk and Stacy Keach costar

The son David (Will Forte), despite having hinted that he grew up in somewhat difficult conditions, showed fervent paternal compassion and I found the relationship they shared incrementally more moving as the movie progressed. Truly exemplary.

I was a little girl when I first saw the young Bruce Dern in "Silent Running" (Sci-fi 1972). The conclusion had left an indelibly powerful mark and the premise remains, over the years, one of my favorites as one of correctness, strenght of character and hope.
