Play Go at Meetup HQ

Okay, it's time to play go with everyone again! We'll be meeting at Meetup HQ again. Remember to buzz the 301 and not the 10th floor!

We've got a bunch of 19x19 boards (because the NY Go Center still haven't taken their stuff out, much to the irritation of the office managers here) one 13x13 and a bunch of 9x9s (I think 4-5ish).

Beginners are welcome, usually I spend my time helping beginners learn the game, but all the other members are happy to teach and play games.

Playing fee of $5, unless we're in some other venue. 100% of the money gets put back into the group (some new equipment, party supplies, etc)

More than twenty people enjoying our favorite game in a clean, comfortable well-lit room -- a perfect afternoon

Joe, I recommend buying online. Kiseido has an outstanding magnetic set for $110, or a biggger one for $165. Yellow Mountain Imports has some nice bamboo boards and cheap stones, or "faux-kaya". I like a lighter board.

I'm pretty horrible at picking out restaurants, so I'm going to crowdsource this... If anyone knows a place that can fit a party of 6-10 on short notice, at around 6-7pm Saturday nights, speak up now!

    Dinner sounds good to me.

Joe: Kunokuniya, near Rockefeller Center, sells some Go sets, and there are also grocery places in Koreatown (32nd street around 6th ave, IIRC) that have some equipment. I've never seen anything fancy in stores here in NY. Mostly beginner sets and travel sets.

If you want really NICE stones, your best bet is online.

Randy: I'd be in for dinner.

We haven't done this in a while, but does anyone feel like going out for dinner after? We can pick some restaurant in the area and go and have dinner and chat, everyone pretty much pays their own way. If someone has a place they've always wanted to try, let me know.

Does anyone know of stores in NYC that sell go stones/equiptment? I have my own homemade board but I'm looking for a good set of stones and maybe a travel board.

I'll also be out of town for July 4th weekend, so if a delay happens we'll have to go without a meetup for a few weeks. =x You guys are welcome to set things up though.
