Hells canyon Rally- this year July 10th to 13th.

Kick stands up at 7:30am...!

The rally takes place in baker city Oregon (about 5 hour trip). The event is normally 3 days, this year the event is 4 days. It begins on Thursday July 10th and ends on Sunday July 13th.  This event has some of the best roads you will ever find, and a great group of people show up from all over. Hotels/motels fill up Pretty quickly, so it's good to make reservations early, even if you cancel at a later date. At this time a departure time has been selected but not confirmed yet. But we do know that most will return Sunday afternoon. The weather last year was super sunny and in the 90's the entire time, perfect. The canyon is deepest canyon in the US, and seems to hold the heat.  It was so hot last year the road was quite soft in a few places, making turns a bit slippery.

I am hoping to get some riders from this group to  go this year. If you are interested or have questions please contact me.  Registration on their website is 50 dollars this year, but well worth it. The $50 includes a rally shirt, 2 meals, rally badge and maps of the courses. It's 80 dollars if you take a campsite at the time of registration. If you want to register or get info on accommodations or campgrounds you can go to the Website at Hellscanyonrally.com lot's of good info and pictures on site.

Ride there will be taking the direct route, so anticipate about 5  to 6 hours to get there.

For some reason I am not able to post link to route here, but if anyone wants a copy of route on map just send a msg through site or email me directly. I will get it back to you pretty quickly. If anyone has comments please let me know.

On Saturdays ride I almost ran over a wild turkey, the next day it was about a six point Buck in the middle of the road. Weather was REALLY HOT! But was some great riding, great scenery, and overall a pretty good time. The Rally seemed much more subdued this year, but was great anyway.

GET READY EVERYONE, Thursday is drawing close. Please try to be on time. It will be a pretty good size group, I estimate at about 12 bikes. We will be kick stands up at 7:30, if you are running a few minutes late, you MUST call my cell [masked]) before 7:15am,
Due to the large size group we have, we will be riding the speed limit and no more than 10 over, so between 60 and say 75 to 80 on the high end once on 90 and 84 freeways. We will stop about every 100 miles for fuel. If someone needs to more frequent "rest" stops, let me know when you arrive in the morning. leaving during rush hour, so we need to keep spacing as uniform as possible to keep the cage drivers from getting into the formation. If part of the group gets separated, don't worry, riders ahead will adjust the ride to allow you to catch up easily. No need to rush.

Due to the early departure time, some of you may not get time to eat before we meet at Bobs Burgers, so am thinking we can catch a Starbucks or such in Ellensburg, grab a quick coffee and bite, pit stop and get back on the road. We will cover this quickly when we meet, any suggestions are always welcome.

KSU at 7:30am. Being such a large group it may take a bit extra to get it all together.
If anyone is going to be there later than 7:20am please call my cell to coordinate.
Don O. [masked] you may wish to put my number in your phones. With so many staying in hotels and campsites, you may want to coordinate with me for rides during the rally and/or the ride back. I myself am staying in the Super 8 motel that is right next to the freeway when you get off in Baker city. If you have any questions before we leave for the rally, feel free to call me, best time is after 4:30 pm up till about 9:00pm any evening. If no answer, Lviv a msg I will call you back pretty quick. Or msg my email through this site. Look forward to seeing you all on Thursday!

Someone at the meet and greet asked about camping in baker city, besides the school. That would be :
    Mtn View RV Park
    2845 Hughes Lane
    Baker City, OR. 97814
    (541)[masked]
    Website at. Mtviewrv.com

They are mainly an RV park, but do take tent campers, facilities are older, but very clean ( as of last year). The Rally shuttle does serve this campground and by shuttle it is maybe 5 minutes from town. They had a large grassy area off to side for tents, and they do have Hot tub and a pool and a general store, see the website. There you go.

I'm game. I've just sold my business and am looking to go on a road trip for 2-4 weeks starting in July-this would be a great start! Looks like I'll be camping....but I've got to buy some gear first. Love to ride down with anyone that's going. Thanks- Rodd

    February 24, 2014

  • Don

Today, Sunday Feb 23rd the Rodeway Inn still had a number of rooms left, pricey but still available, you CAN NOT get them on line, you MUST call the hotel directly at[masked] to get a reservation.
Hope this helps! Check in Thursday the 10th and out on Sunday the 13th.

    February 23, 2014

  • Don

Anyone that would like to suggest routes for the trip down and the ride back, please submit them back to me by email and all routes will be considered and discussed with the group before the departure date

  • Michael S.

I am getting back from a Utah run on July sixth, I may be up for the Hells canyon run also but can't commit yet so it looks like if I go I may be stuck camping.

    February 22, 2014

  • Don

Remember there are plenty of rooms in LaGrande just 20 minutes away, and the prices are half what you pay in Baker City. Good Luck in your search, if you need suggestions or info msg me

    February 8, 2014

  • Don

Those rooms are $179 for a night for room with two queen beds, sorry I was posting faster than I was getting the info. A bit on the pricey side, unless your splitting them, but they have quite a few rooms available. May be others but this is what I've found so far. You MUST call the motel directly to book the rooms, they are not available on line, you must call. See info just below.

    February 8, 2014

  • Don

Today Saturday the 8th of Feb. the Rodeway inn in Baker City still has a bunch of rooms available. Number is[masked]-2242. The motel is at 810 Campbell St., Baker City.-- I would call soon.

    February 8, 2014

  • Don

I meant to say that they have rooms available but just not on that Friday the 11th......if Friday opens up they will reserve another room for Thursday through checkout on Sunday...time will tell.

    January 16, 2014

  • Don

As of 1:30 pm today 1/16/14 the super 8 had rooms available but not for Friday. I spoke with them and asked her to put the first open/cancelled room onto my reservation, so one may open up and they will let me know. If/when it becomes available I will let you know, if you decide not to take it I will offer it to someone else., hope this may work out for you.

I would like to go, Where is the website for registering?

    January 15, 2014

  • Alan C

I've ridden between Seattle and Baker many, many times, and can recommend routes that avoid Interstate highway travel. Looking forward to meeting and discussing plans. I would probably prefer to return via Idaho US-95 and Lewiston-Clarkston.

  • Stan

I get back from a 3 week trip July 8. If I can I would go because I'm on vacation that whole week. With jet lag and all, hmm, we'll see.
