Dams Tour III (newbie ride)

Dear Fellow Riders.

It is a third attempt to perform this ride. Two previous ones has a rain. I suppose, it will be the rain at third time, whatever what the date will be chosen and even it will be no rain in the forecast (joke), So

Northern Maryland has a number of Dams and I invite you to see 4 of them:

#1 Brighton Dam

#2 Liberty Dam

#3 Loch Raven Dam

#4 Pretty Boy Dam

We start at 9:00AM in Germantown and ride thru these 4 dams, stop on each to make a photo and have some rest. The route itself goes thru countryside on back roads - not so curvy and hilly and acceptable for newbies. The pace will be slow-to-moderate depends on the less skilled rider. The total route is about 150 miles.

I suppose it will be 2 groups ride, so I limited it by 40 bikes, Jim is a leader of the second group.

Note #1: Do not expect fast riding

Note #2: We will have just one special stop on gasoline station - 11235 York Road Cockeysville, MD. It will be about 60 miles from the start and up to 90 miles to the finish. - please be sure you will have enough gasoline for the ride. I also could stop on some gasoline station on the way up to my choice.

Note #3:The restaurant is so expensive (will be ready to pay ~ $30 per peson, but service is incredible and so fast, especially for big group).

Note #4: Do not expect restrooms on the dam's overlook

Note #5: Liberty Dam is not open for public, so we will stop on Liberty Reservoir instead.

Note #6: The date is a subject to change

Note #7: Fishing is prohibited on ALL DAMs! Please leave your lines at home ... (joke)

Great ride. Nice to see so many bikes.

Nice ride yesterday. Intended to spend all day with the group, but the group took off abruptly from Lock Raven Dam without Henry and I. We took off 45 seconds behind, but took a wrong turn at top of entrance, doubled back and subsequently never caught up. Suggest ride leaders never leave a stop without all members ready.

Good back road ride. I liked the stop-overs at each dam. It gave us time to talk to fellow riders and stretch the legs. Thanks Andrei!

Great ride! Well organized and led. Thanks for a great intro to the group and riding in general. I've lived in Maryland for 30+ years and never seen some of those amazing sights.

Is anyone else having trouble uploading photos? Cant seem to get it to work here...

    • Expat2b

Looks like its a mobile problem. Copied photos from phone to laptop and they are uploading fine. Got the android update a few days ago and it broke Meetup uploader from the phone. Ticket opened.

    May 10, 2014

Really sorry to miss this one. I was supposed to get my bike out of the shop yesterday but they let me down. Hopefully this tour will happen again next year. Enjoy everyone!

    May 10, 2014

  • Kelly P.

Something's come up and I may have to cancel, but I might also be able to just bail after Loch Raven dam. Meeting at Brighton Dam would also a better option for me.

    May 9, 2014

  • Bill P.

I'd also like to join at Brighten Dam. Andrei, can you guess a time for stop #1?

    May 9, 2014

  • Adam

My MIL/family get together is at 6 so here I come! But 2 questions... 1) Could I join the group at Bright Dam instead of Germantown? I expect a late Sat. night - I need the extra half hour sleep!!!
    2) Can I break off at Pretty Boy to make a more direct Dash home via 27?

Yeah, I know, another "But I'm special" ... which is why I ask about acceptability of these things... I will still try to make Germantown if I can wake up...

  • Martino

Guy's can't make it. I was reminded this weekend that it's mother's day on Sunday. Have a great ride.

    May 5, 2014

  • Patrick

Liberty Dam was initially closed on Sunday, Apr. 27, 2014, when we got there. Then a guard came out and opened the gate. We asked what happened? Apparently, it depends on the guard. It supposed to be open until dark.

Question... Does a passenger count as a +1?

    April 28, 2014

Is there room for one more?

Great success! I'm in for DT3! Last weekend was spent adjusting valves and changing fluids so I'm almost ready for the season. Maybe get the new rubber on this weekend. Can't wait to get in some saddle time.

  • Rick N.

WT...? Tried to RSVP to an open spot notice but already taken. This is one tough room. I'll just have to start checking E-mail every 5 minutes instead of every 10. Oh well - April is an eternity away at this time of year. Ride safe all.

    January 18, 2014

    • Laura C.

Just show up Rick. What's one more? It's already 40 bikes!

      1 · January 18, 2014

said yes for now, but depends on actual date and kids' hockey schedule...

    July 27, 2013

  • Mike J.

Is this really on April 6, 2014 - 9+ months from now?

    June 24, 2013

    • Andrei

Yes. My 2013 is filled out and it is time to plan 2014 season. Anyway, the date is a subject to change and it could be moved 2 weeks early or later. It is just an intension to have this ride around that time.

      June 24, 2013

  • Fred P.

    1 passenger.

    June 24, 2013

  • Jim M.

I'll give it another try too. Hopefully my bike cooperates better this time.
