Green Ridge State Forest Ride

Fellow Riders

I developed the idea of Green Ridge State Forest Ride and now it is full day 230 miles advanced ride - mostly on hilly and curvy roads. Unpaved/gravel road are possible and I will not try to avoid them. Please be prepared for that. Hopefully these parts will not be so long - at least up to 3 miles. I will ride in allegro style (fast enough), so experienced riders only. It will be just 5 chunks - 45-50 miles and a lunch in Everett, PA.

The ride is limited this ride by 15 riders - it is not fo the large group. I posted it for March 17, 2013 - but probably we will have a chance to do it early. I let you know at least 2 weeks before the actual date.

Hi Paul... great to have you on the ride yesterday... as for upgrading, I think the FZ6 has plenty of punch and is easy enough to flick around in the twisties.... a larger bike does have its advantages, but can be a beast in parking lots and on gravel...

As you do these longer rides, you develop your "riding muscles" (that, or the calluses on your butt!) that help make these rides easier.

    Cheers
    Mahi

FZ1 Bars are on order! - Good note on the riding muscles. Lactic acid fun!

Thanks to Andrei, Eric and the group for a great ride. I had to bail just when the riding was getting good! I’m still getting my kinks (and knots) worked out on longer rides. And my bike (and body) is not shy about telling me when it’s time to go home (insert feeling of icepicks in shoulder blades here). Hmm…Maybe time for upgrade? :)

Everything passed good. We explored Green Ridge State Forest area and I found a nice way, how to ride there. The area to North from Breezwood was explored as well - but it is not acceptable for riding. The roads were paved, but a lot of small tiny rocks on them made these roads more dangerous than gravel ones. I will avoid this area in the next. The weather was beautiful and I enjyed this day. Thanks to Eric, he did the sweeper's work perfectly.

Something came up. I will try for next ride.

Andrei, we can seed a few of us in the pack as Marshalls. Guys hyper-aware of the responsibility of not dropping half the group.

The restaraunt is ready for us!!

    April 12, 2013

  • Andrei

The number of riders is stopped around 20. It is still good for one group. Moreover, it will be definitely some "no show", so the ride in one group most possible. I agreed with Eric - Bill is the best choose for a sweeper.

I have a headset, so I can chat with anyone with a Sena riding sweep. Bill, you ARE good at sweep as well. Always comforting to see the trike back there.

I'm pretty good at tail gunner and if anyone has blue tooth in their helmet, that is what I run so I can use the cell phone. I have a new CB, but don't know if I'll have it working by Sunday.

Tom Glacken may be up to it as well Andrei. He,s led the last two weeks . Tom ,can you help out if Eric cant?

    April 10, 2013

  • Eric

Hi Andrei, I would say yes if 1) I knew my gps and your gps routed the same and b) i get rid of the headcold I have (which should be gone)

    April 8, 2013

    • Andrei

      1) Which GPS do you have? I could prepare GPX file with the route

      April 9, 2013

    • Andrei

      2) Let's assume it will be gone :)

      April 9, 2013

  • Andrei

    Hi Eric,
Let's do 2 groups. Are you a second lider? The weather will be perfect according to the forecast. I will update the ride description shortly.

    April 8, 2013

  • Eric

    Andrei,

You have one mofo of a waitlist for this. Think about whether you want to do this in two groups?

    April 7, 2013

    Look forward to it!

Hey everybody, I know last Sunday got our blood moving and our hopes up. We're just raring to get out on the highway. Spring is just around the corner and I can't wait to meet everyone. Hang in there Andrei, I appreciate your enthusiasm for wanting to go even in cold weather. And if I had a bike with heated seat, heated jacket, maybe I would go anyway.

    March 16, 2013

  • Mahi

230 miles + 120 mile round trip to start of ride looks too much of a cold weather ride for me. Hope to join warmer rides next month.

    1 · March 16, 2013

  • Andrei

I am still in. I considered to shift this ride latter, but decided to perform it. It is sill "weather permitted" and we still a have a chance to have even snow tomorrow. I will post my final decision tonight.

    Kenny will join us

Getting called into work on Sunday...

    March 15, 2013

  • Andrei

The ride is on. At least the forecast will not changed significantly to the bad side. See you on Sunday.

    March 15, 2013

  • Andrei

    Thanks Roman
The weather forecast is becoming better and better. However I could probably have my family obligation for this Sunday. I will make my final decision tonight.

Now they are forecasting high of 45F and no chance of rain for this Sunday. Hopefully it stays that way or gets even warmer. http://forecast.weather.gov/Map...

  • Rhys

    April 14th gets my vote!

    March 13, 2013

  • Jill

    April sounds warmer :))

    March 13, 2013

    • Andrei

I do not care so much about cold+sunny weather, but cold+rain will bother me a lot.

      March 13, 2013

  • Andrei

The forecast for Sunday is not good now
30% of rain and cold enough (36-38F).
The route is complicated enough and long enough, so the ride could be shifted later. Next 2 weekend I will be in Mexico, so it will be possible in the beginning of April only. I will make my final decision on Saturday

    March 13, 2013

  • Michael G.

Sorry I can't make this ride, hoping someone else will enjoy it in my place.

    March 12, 2013

  • Paul

Family stuff came up. Have fun!

    March 12, 2013

  • Andrei

Guy's I did some slight changes in the route. Travelers Cafe is out of business now, so we will have lunch in Kelly's Scenic View. I was there one - it is a good restaurant.

    March 11, 2013

  • Margaret E.

Unfortunately I have wacked my back out of shape - it's not going to be better by Sunday - will try to get on a ride soon!

    March 11, 2013

  • Mike F.

I'll be green with envy as I have to be inside working on a prroposal for our company all weekend. Enjoy teh ride and teh weather,

    March 11, 2013

  • Andrei

Guys, it could be 2 group ride, if Tammy agrees to handle the second group. In this case the limit will be increased.

    March 11, 2013

    • Paul

      fingers crossed!

      March 11, 2013

  • Andrei

The attendance list has been cleaned. No sports left
