(Schaeffer/SRT Ride) changed to Gambrill-Watershed ride

Due to storm last night, the venue has changed to Gambrill-Watershed ride.  This trail will be a bit more challenging but we'd still have the 2 groups - moderate/fast pace and beginner/casual. We'll have enough folks (my friends who knows the trails really well will be there) guiding and sweeping both groups so you don't need the trail map.  If all who RSVPed from gears and beers attend, along with my friends, there will be a total of 40 of us riding tomorrow.   Here's my number just in case[masked]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone-

The SRT (Seneca Ridge Trail) will be a fun trail with lots of rolling trails, sweet uphills and downhills, stream crossings and small bridges...no technicals!

Due to the many riders attending, we shall divide the group into a moderate/fast pace and beginner/casual ride!!!

The ride will approx. be 15+ miles and 2.5 hours+ so please bring enough water and food on the trail.  ***It will be a hot day so please bring lots of water!  If you have a camelbak, adding ice in the bladder will be a good idea :) Helmet is a must!!!***

BTW, the SF (Schaeffer Farm) parking lot gets easily full in the morning so we suggest to try to come in early to get a good spot!

Directions to SF:

Directions:

Take I-270 to exit 15B, Rt.118 west. At about 5 miles turn right onto 5 miles onto Richter Farm Rd. Turn left at 4-way stop onto Schaeffer Rd., go through the traffic circle and shortly after the road narrows look for Seneca State Park on left. Trailhead is at the end of parking lot after gate.

Looking forward to see y'all there!!!

It was awesome! I love how technical it was. Really makes you think. The group of people we rode with was the best part. Everyone took care of each other

A very long technical ride. If it wasn't for the awesome people who led the ride I'd have bailed after the first 20 minutes. My legs will hate me!

NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!!
Christie and Eman did the pre-ride today and lots of trees down in schaeffers/SRT due to storm from last night. They tried the white and yellow even at hoyles mill, debris are everywhere. Thinking of fountainhead but a friend of us notified us that it's similar to schaffers. The only trail that is good is Gambrill so we'll have to change the venue and make it a Gambril-shed ride.
I will post the info/address soon as i get home.

Anybody want to carpool from the Reston area? I can take two more as long as you have standard quick release axles on your front wheels for my roof rack.

Ice is a good idea, perhaps also some salty stuff like Gatorade or GU to prevent hyponatremia. Brian, new map looks good.

    June 27, 2012

  • BRIAN

    Christine,
The new map you posted is of Reston! Just simply take the link I listed above, and post it the map location.

Yes it'll be hot that day but shady in the trail...we recommend peeple to bring lots of water and if they have a camelbak, adding ice in the bladder would be good idea. I'll check the map, thanks.

Going to be very hot day. Also, the map places you in a shopping mall?
