Weekend at Achnasheen: Torridon Circuit - graded Hard/Epic 40 4000ft

Weekend away based at Achnasheen;

Ordnance Survey map 25, Car park  map ref[masked] & Inver Croft map ref[masked]

There is a lot of scope for riding in this area, at all levels of expertise - or not, although to be able to read a map is almost essential - otherwise you will have to depend on someone leading a ride that you can cope with......

On the Saturday I intend to lead the Torridon circuit route -- Coulags to Coulags circular via Torridon. This is a "Hard/Epic" ride not for novices. Of the order of 40 miles and nearly 4000ft of asscent. (Probably akin to doing the Glentress black one-and-a-half to two times in one day) The ride cuts through wild and unihabited upland areas, riders should be self sufficient -- breaking down means on site repair or a long walk out.

If sufficient people request an easier ride, and, can find a leader then by all means come along, and I will find more sleeping places, but the area demand that you can competently read a map, and use a compass.

Accommodation: Jacobites MC Club hut in Achnasheen for the weekend of Saturday 16th March. Cost ~£7.5 per night. The area is great for mountain biking with the Contin trails only about 25 mins away.

I will post more details of other rides nearer the time.

The idea is to arrive at Inver Friday evening, ride Saturday and Sunday, leaving for home late Sunday afternoon. There is a well appointed kitchen - no microwave!!, lounge and drying room. So bring your own food to cook - unless there is a will to cook as a group...... You will need a sleeping bag.
Any questions just ask. I would suggest that we take as few cars as we can to keep costs down - I have three bike racks and so can take two passengers from Edinburgh.
Cheers

    Anyone up for a car share? I may be a tad busy until the evening so anyone going up after worktime would be perfect!

    Hi Mike, are you still intending to stop off at Glenlivet trails on way up? What time were you aiming to get there?

    Hi Mike - did you get my email? I'm afraid I'm not going to make it this weekend as I've done my back in. Am dosed up with ibuprofen and waiting to see the chiropractor, so sitting traveling for 4 hours then hiking biking is not a good idea. So frustrating, I was very much looking forward. Perhaps someone else would like to share a lift up? Have a great time and please do it again sometime! Lucy

      Hi Lucy, just read my email so yes, Sorry to hear about your back, hope it gets better soon. I had quite a bad back - it laid me up for weeks - last year, one of the things that helped was gentle cycling - canal and water of leith up to Harlaw - fairly smooth - the jiggling about eased my back reducing the pain dramatically. Oh and could you change your RSVP to no please?

    Hi all I would just like to reiterate that you will need a to bring a sleeping bag for the Acnasheen meet - I'd hate to see anyone shivering on the meet!!!

      Lucy, as you can leave from 2pm, how about we leave at two, and stop off at the Glenlivet trails on the way up and get a couple of circuits of the blue - about half an hour a lap? - Anyone else interested?
