Learn to Flow: Two-Day Clinic

  • February 1, 2014 · 10:00 AM

"I saw no bicycle, no human body, heard barely a sound, but it moved through the shadows of the trail, flowing up and down the hills, as if it didn't touch the ground at all."

Come and improve your Flow in this two-day skills training for intermediate riders (contact Amy if you are unsure about your level). Finding that special feeling of effortlessly gliding along the trail has not so much to do with the type of terrain as it does the skills of the rider.

Understanding how to work your body with the bike, the terrain and the gravity, whether it's up or down, is what makes it all flow together. This starts with understanding and improving the different techniques needed for various trails surfaces, and how to use our eyes and our body-weight shift to handle rocky drops, cornering, switchbacks, in sand and loose crushed granite, or over loose rock or slick-rock.

1. Saturday, 9am: Phoenix Mountain Preserve

Trail 100 (and surrounding spur trails) offers some of the most variety of rocky and steep terrain. Here, we will work on the technical skills needed to safely descend over rocks and steps, how to navigate switchback turns, and how to use line of sight to create a flow over even the roughest terrain.

2. Sunday 9am: McDowell Sonoran Preserve at Pima and Dynamite Junction

One of the trickiest types of terrain is our unique crushed granite soil, which makes for difficult riding without understanding the techniques needed for riding on this kind of surface. We will be working on how to keep traction while climbing and descending, along with specific braking and turning skills for this terrain. Plus, we'll work on understanding how to get through deep, sandy areas with less effort and more speed.

TIME: Class will run a minimum of 3 hours and no longer than 4 hours each day

COST: (includes Saturday and Sunday): $150 per person total. Single day $75 p/p.

Space is limited to 8 riders per class, so sign up soon to reserve your spot!
