See a true-life drama, "42" Friday at 6:40PM for $2.00 admission -- that's right, TWO BUCKS! Tropicana Cinemas is located in the lot behind the Rebel station on the northwest corner of Tropicana and Pecos with plenty of well-lighted parking. I'll be there at 6:30PM -- please try to arrive then so we can all be seated together -- find the old catcher with the grey beard inside the building, near the theatre (numbers one through six) where the movie is showing. Note that food and drink brought from outside is not allowed in the building. Optional meeting to socialise afterward at Putter's, thirty yards away.
Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) and Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) forever change the world of baseball by breaking Major League Baseball's infamous color line. Facing unabashed racism from every side, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey's hopes. Instead of that, Number 42 let his talent on the field do the talking - ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow.
