Come see "Brick Mansions" at 5:15PM on Saturday to benefit the families of the victims of last Sunday's shootings. Tropicana Cinemas is located in the lot behind the Rebel station on the northwest corner of Tropicana and Pecos with plenty of well-lighted parking. I'll be there at 5PM — find the inner-city man with a grey beard in the lobby. Note that food and drink brought from outside is not allowed in the building. Optional meeting to socialise afterward at Putter's, thirty yards away.
☼ "Brick Mansions" — directed by Camille Delamarre — is about the abandoned brick structures left from better times in Detroit which now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control crime there, the police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier (Paul Walker) every day is a battle against corruption. For Lino (David Belle) every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino's girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they plan to stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city.
