Oscar movie second chance: D'Jango Unchained

For our Oscar second chance film this Saturday, I'm going for DJango Unchained at the Cineworld Haymarket, where its showing at 7.45. So we'll meet in the small bar area inside the cinema from 7- it'll probably be quite late after the meet so will probably be a quick drink after at the Captain's Cabin around the corner.

Hope to see you there!

... the only night of the year when we are reminded that only America makes films worthy of awards..."??? I gotta take exception boss. Which world-class films were not nominated? The Oscars, while watched by an international audience, is after all, an American awards show - thus categories like "best foreign language film" (like my all-time favorite Cinema Paradiso out of Italy). It is not meant as a derogatory label. I gotta ask the obvious question - how many BAFTAs have Japanese anime films won? Cannes? Making money doesn't make a film automatically bad, as a film struggling to be released or having a limited value doesn't necessarily make it "artistic". Most 2013 nominated films (Lincoln, Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Argo, etc.) are quite handsomely-crafted films, with both high production value and high artistic merit. Hollywood is an easy target for the world, but they have stayed in business for so long because, with glaring exceptions meant for quick money, they make good films.

Actually the BAFTAS have a amongst the best strike rate of nominating and awarding films from all over the world mainly because we have the "Best Film", "Best Film Not in the English Language" and "Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film". I think the list on Wikipedia speaks for itself. http://en.wikipedia.o...

Lovely to meet you all on Saturday. Enjoyed the film, although I did think it would never end, Oscar worthy all the same (obviously). :)

Very entertaining, with Tarantino as usual having lots of fun with fake blood and guts. Could have trimmed some of the fat towards the end, though: less Django Unchained, more Django Unedited...

Yes Nozi we get our own tickets- I'm sending out a mail now with the link to buy online, otherwise you could wait until we're all at the cinema as this probably won't sell out but there's always a chance it might!

This will be my 1st meetup with the group. Booked my ticket in advance - not sure if this is what people usually do, but better safe than sorry :p

Hi Gabriel, Any thoughts on the movie or location yet? Are we voting on the movie?

    February 17, 2013

    • Gabriel

I was thinking of a vote but in the last vote nobody who was there had actually voted for the winning film! So I've just picked a film a couple of people said they missed first time round, but will pick a cinema also showing other options around the same time!

Film will be known soon- I'm going to see if there are any big winners the group hasn't seen or could see again if we saw them mid-week and decide then
