A Thousand Times Goodnight

Juliette Binoche stars as Rebecca, one of the world's top war photographers, who must weather an emotional storm when her husband refuses to put up with her dangerous life any longer.

Also starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones)

The film is in English, though director Erik Poppe (himself a photojournalist in the 1980s) hails from Norway and its star is best know for her work in the French language.  Click (here) for a review of the film in American trade paper Variety.

Tickets can be bought (here)

We will aim to go for a drink afterwards to discuss the movie.

I’m almost completely mystified by the number of 3-star reviews this movie has received. Seemingly saying it has a gripping opening and then fails to live up to it. DON’T BELIEVE IT! A great balancing act in not offering any easy answers to its multiple moral dilemmas, yet consistently posing questions about ‘right or wrong’ from different angles. If you like character based drama which tackles strong themes, spiced up with a little bit of ‘Michael Mann-style’ kinetic film-making, then this is definitely worth your time.

I'm not a film critic, but no movie can offer easy answers to the ethical dilemmas presented in A Thousand Times Goodnight (good and evil, career versus family etc.) so I think this approach was quite honest from the very beginning by showing the human contradictions and the brutality of the war. Full stop. To extend the movie in abstract interpretations and conclusions is in my opinion rhetoric...

I seem to have got the date wrong in my diary so missed the film today. I am so sorry, especially as it is a film worth seeing. Many apologies.

Juliette Binoche is still good enough reason on her own to watch a movie, very impressed with the actress who played the elder daughter too. Gorgeous movie, right as I was starting to think it was going to drag it found a whole new level to go to.

I wouldn't mind it being moved to Monday Gavin - only thing is we don't know if the wonderful people at London Underground will go on strike that day again....

Is the Tube strike not starting on Tuesday night at 9pm?

      May 3, 2014

    • Michelle

It's Monday night for 72 hours, so it's ending a day later because it's running longer rather than starting later.

Got my ticket. Where are we meeting? Regarding the tube strike, need to check transportation before hand.

At the moment I won't be able to go if it's on the Monday, but I'm easy, whatever is best for the majority.

Unfortunately, can't make it, but would have been able to make a later showing in the evening in the west end.
