The Wind Rises (2013)

Destined to be the last feature film from Spirited Away's Hayao Miyazaki, The Wind Rises tells a fictionalised account of the life of Jiro Horikoshi, an aircraft designer whose Mitsubishi fighter planes were used by the Japanese empire during World War II.  The English voice cast includes Joseph Gordon Levitt, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt and Elijah Wood (among others).

The film comes highly recommended; nominated for both Academy and Golden Globe awards it was the highest grossing movie in Japan last year and is sitting on an 8.1/10 rating on IMDB.

I've now checked out which cinemas are showing the movie around the right time and their seating capacities.  There weren't very many central locations doing it anywhere close to the time we were aiming for and one of those had a screen that could barely hold those who'd RSVP'd so far.

As a result I've chosen the Vue in Islington, which is very near Angel station and which I know from a meet up earlier in the year can handle all of us showing up in its lobby.  It's a decent sized screen so we should all be able to get tickets though I would recommend booking ahead of time.  Please note that the cinema is in the N1 centre and that we're going to the dubbed in English showing, not the subtitled one (though that's at a different time in any case).

You can book your tickets here.

Those who have RSVP'd will receive full details the night before the meet and we'll be going on to a bar afterwards :)

An amazing film, but a little sad. I won't be coming as I've already seen it. Enjoy all!

Hello do I have to purchase the ticket in advance?

    May 14, 2014

    • Michelle

It might be possible to buy on the door on the day but the screen only holds about a hundred people. So far there's plenty seats left but if you want to be certain of getting a ticket it's best to book before :)

Sorry only just spotted this, otherwise wouldn't have done the same film two days ago. Still seems you have loads going - great film if you are keen on Ghibli and/or aeronautical engineering!

To be fair I'd put it up a while ago when it was way down the schedule. Did you enjoy it, at least? I'm really looking forward to seeing it. (Also I would recommend Frank. I was apprehensive about seeing it but I really enjoyed it actually).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
