Destined to be the last feature film from Spirited Away's Hayao Miyazaki, The Wind Rises tells a fictionalised account of the life of Jiro Horikoshi, an aircraft designer whose Mitsubishi fighter planes were used by the Japanese empire during World War II. The English voice cast includes Joseph Gordon Levitt, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt and Elijah Wood (among others).
The film comes highly recommended; nominated for both Academy and Golden Globe awards it was the highest grossing movie in Japan last year and is sitting on an 8.1/10 rating on IMDB.
I've now checked out which cinemas are showing the movie around the right time and their seating capacities. There weren't very many central locations doing it anywhere close to the time we were aiming for and one of those had a screen that could barely hold those who'd RSVP'd so far.
As a result I've chosen the Vue in Islington, which is very near Angel station and which I know from a meet up earlier in the year can handle all of us showing up in its lobby. It's a decent sized screen so we should all be able to get tickets though I would recommend booking ahead of time. Please note that the cinema is in the N1 centre and that we're going to the dubbed in English showing, not the subtitled one (though that's at a different time in any case).
You can book your tickets here.
Those who have RSVP'd will receive full details the night before the meet and we'll be going on to a bar afterwards :)
