Fruitvale Station

Oscar Grant (Michael B Jordan) wakes up on December 31st 2008 and decides to make an early start on his New Year's Resolutions. He's determined to be a better son, boyfriend and father but while he puts his best foot forward he soon comes to realise that change doesn't come easily... and a day that starts with good intentions ends with the entire nation knowing his name.

Based on a true story Fruitvale Station won both the 2013 Grand Jury prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film festival, as well as Best First Film in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Needless to say it has been very well received, with Jordan's performance in particular being singled out for praise. Also starring Octavia Spencer and including real (and very challenging) footage of what happened with Oscar Grant that day the film made its UK debut at Sundance London earlier this year.

It's fair to say the movie isn't a fluff piece but I'm deliberately avoiding details of the real story for those who'd rather not know (though apparently the film starts by making clear how it ends). I've been hearing good things since the US release last year and now it's finally come to us I intend in getting to it opening weekend.

So now the 'survey' has been completed we'll definitely be going to the Cineworld in Haymarket for the 7pm showing this Saturday.  The vote was very close so I actually feel a bit bad but in the end the majority did prefer the later showtime.  I'm really sorry if that means anyone now can't make it but hopefully we'll get to see you again at another event...  If you decide to attend the earlier showing anyway and would like to say hi we'll be in the bar area of the Cineworld itself from about 6.15pm and it would be lovely to see you, we'll be leaving the bar at about 6.50pm as seating isn't designated.

You can book tickets here.  You'll get a 10% discount if you're signed in (which is free).

Those who have RSVP'd will receive full details the night before the meet.

The screen was too small? Are we talking literally or metaphorically here?

A different type of movie true to life & based on a real human tale , you could hear a penny drop .

I've finalised the showtime for Saturday, sorry to those of you who wanted the earlier showing but slightly more asked for the 7pm. Especially sorry if this means that you now can't make it. If you decide to go along to the earlier screening anyway please feel to stop by the bar area after to say hi...we should be there from about 6.15 to 6.50pm :-)

    4.30pm, please.

Didn't.RSVP till you decided on cinema. Am guessing from the time options it's Cineworld Haymarket? In which case I'll come, with a preference for the 7.00 pm.

I've sent an email to the group (which I promise had paragraphs when I sent it for all they were removed by the time it got to my inbox) to check showtime preference. If you didn't get the email but you've RSVP'd yes please send me a message and I'll mail you directly.

Which cinema have you chosen? Would like to come, thanks

      June 4, 2014

    • Michelle

It'll be the Cineworld at Haymarket, either at 4.30 or 7pm. I'll finalise which screening late tonight (so you can let me know if you have a preference, I'm going to go with the majority decision though right now there's a majority of one lol)

Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it. Really disappointed! :(

Hi Michelle, the 5pm screening would be ideal for me.

Sounds like a really good film! I'm hoping the location is central as I'd love to come.

Didn't get to see this while I was living in the states. Very interested in seeing the movie as I remember watching the news nightly for updates.

    is this at Cineworld?

    May 29, 2014

    • Michelle

I won't know where until cinema schedules come out next week. I'm sort of hoping for the O2 Cineworld but it depends on their showtimes and if I can find people a better price elsewhere :)

      May 29, 2014

  • Mel H.

    Hi Michelle
I can make it if it's central to East! I will try and un-RSVP if I can't make it.

    May 27, 2014

  • Joanne L.

If I can get there from work!

    May 16, 2014

    • Michelle

For what it's worth for this particular one I'm hoping there's a decent showtime at the O2. I almost made it to the Sundance screening of it there so my brain's attached the film to the venue. It's not guaranteed, of course, but it's where I'll be checking first.

It's a great movie and about time for it to get London screenings... unfortunately i cannot make in on the 7th :(

    May 15, 2014

  • Michelle

Please be aware I've just moved this forward by one day to Saturday 7th June. Completely forgot I had agreed to a work thing on the 8th, so sorry. Have left the time at 5pm and will aim for that but being a Saturday I imagine the showtimes will be closer to 6.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
