£6 Tuesdays at the BFI (currently 3 tickets available at this price).
Based on the celebrated novel by Ernest Hemingway. This newly restored film stars Gary Cooper as Frederic Henry, an American serving in the Italian ambulance brigade who meets, through a cynical, womanising doctor friend, an English nurse named Catherine (Helen Hayes). Frederic’s initial attempts to flirt fail to impress Catherine, but war can have an odd way of bringing people together…
Offsetting its romantic elements with the carnage and cruel authoritarianism of warfare, the film is being released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I.
Tickets can be booked (here). £6 tickets are marked in red on the seating plan.
We’ll aim to go for a drink after the screening to discuss the film.
I’ll send out an e-mail with meeting details to all those who have RSVPed shortly before the event.
