The Young and Prodigious T. S. Spivet

You heard it here first: Helena Bonham Carter is in a movie that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton aren't slapped all over. True story.

T.S. Spivet tells the story of a young genius with a passion for cartography and scientific instruments.  One day he receives a letter from the prestigious Smithsonian Museum offering him an award for his discovery of a perpetual motion machine, and he's invited to a ceremony half across the country to collect it.   He decides not to tell his family about the trip and instead packs a case and leaves them a note before heading off on a great adventure... If only he wasn't ten years old.

Starring Kyle Catlett, Judy Davis, Callum Keith Rennie and of course the lady Bonham Carter, The Young and Prodigious T. S Spivet comes from the same director as Amelie and Delicatessen, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Generally well-received (7.2 on IMDB right now, 80% on Rotten Tomatoes) it also won a Cesar Award for its cinematography.

I've picked a 3D showing because the screening times for 3D were better placed and no-one had stated a preference.  Tickets are £7.30 with a 70p supplement if you need 3D glasses and you can book them here.  The screen time is actually 6.20pm, Meetup just doesn't let you pick anything that isn't a multiple of 15 :-)

Those who have RSVP'd will receive full details the night before the meet and we'll aim to go on to a bar after.

Lovely film. The 3D effect was amazing. Best I've seen. Great performance from the boy. Enjoyed our chat afterwards, hope to meet you again.

Thanks for your response Michelle, but have been advised since that parking round there is a nightmare! ( and expensive ) so it will have to be the tube. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing this film with you guys. I much prefer Picturehouses to a multiplex.
    More grown up!
P.s. Shall be bringing a spare pair of 3D glasses if anybody wants them.
    See you there
    Brian

You're welcome. The nearest stations are actually generally overground, I'm coming in via Hackney Central myself :)

Anyone know this area? What chance of finding a parking spot?

    June 16, 2014

    • Michelle

There's a few car parks in the area, best list I can find is this one: http://www.hackney.go... at the time we're going I'd have thought you'd be okay to get a space but as a pedestrian/public transport girl I don't pay enough attention to be certain. There's is a Tesco nearby too but the limit at superstores is usually a strict 90 mins or two hours.

Meet details have been sent out (though I know they're not in my inbox yet so presumably they're on they're way to you still). If you haven't received them by morning let me know and I'll send them to you directly. Likewise if you RSVP after this message please let me know so I can fill you in.

    Hi !
I am not sure to be able to be at the cinema at 18:15 (I have to check tomorrow morning if it is possible), so I didn't click that I am going but maybe I will (sorry if it is not very clear)

That's fine. The showing is actually 6.20 and there's likely to be at least 15 mins of ads (probably more).

Saw this film on Sunday, in 3D (in a Picture House cinema...); I really enjoyed it, but it left the friend I went with totally cold........!?
So I shall be curious to read your opinions of it, after Monday.
