The Dark Knight Rises

The last in the current Batman franchise... until it gets rebooted again no doubt.

This one's been a bit of a challenge to organise as we already have over 100 people saying they're coming and we want to make sure as many of us as possible get tickets before it sells out! Also it'd be good to see this on a massive screen; there's no way we'd all get tickets for the Imax close to the day, so I've gone for the Greenwich Cineworld [BOOKING LINK], which is at the O2 arena. They have a massive 'sky' screen which actually isn't any more expensive than normal ones and those of you with Cineworld cards will get a good deal too, though you can't get the cineworld card deal online.

We are going to the 4.10 pm screening, it's two hours & fourty five minutes, so that means we'll still have pub time after. Also if it sells out there's another showing at 5pm, so if it does sell out you can try the 5pm show and meet us in the pun after.

As of Friday night there were still tickets available, but there IS a risk it'll be sold out before 3.15 so it's up to you whether you want to book online or take a chance! It's the 16.10 showing in the 'SKY' screen (there are normal or 'VIP' tickets). It's unallocated seating so hopefully we'll sit together- we'll probably go in to get our seats at around 4pm.

So we'll meet in the cinema's bar area from 3.15. There are probably going to be a huge amount of us going, and a lot of new people; I've already sent my number out so if you're RSVPing on Saturday, please just look out for us at the venue. Afterwards we have an area booked in the O2 Slug and Lettuce pub, though it'll probably be standing space for most of us as there isn't anywhere we can book that's big enough for the whole group!

Hope to see you there!

There are plenty of elements that made this film work, so I suppose we can tick them off one by one. For starters, the continuation on the focus of Bruce Wayne's story, which has made it all tick. This version of Bruce Wayne and Alfred become the familiar characters we're accustomed with since 2005, and the film invests heavily on the emotional bonding between the two, which deals back to the theme about fear that rears its ugly head again, and how a father figure cannot stand idly by to watch the one he brought up recklessly charge into battle after a long hiatus, and hoping for a life of normalcy with the mantle of the bat given up. Michael Caine may have a shorter screen time than before, but no less powerful.

I tried to see again the film last saturday but I went out the cinema. So I realized thst didn't liked the last Batman (The dark knight rises) The wicked buddy is too rought and the story is less credible even for a comics hero!

Yes the queue system was a bit of a nightmare and think lots of people got caught up queuing for 15 mins to collect tickets then again to get seats 30mins before the film started! Apparently this is common for this cinema; strange system!

Thanks Gabriel for organising this. Bit bemused by staff mixing the queues up, but didn't detract from the event. Movie was great and enjoyed the company / drink in the pub after. Looking forward to the next one.

Although being a comic book fan I wasn't as smitten with TDKR as some but it gets a lot of things right but I felt like it was very heavy handed at times and I hate to say, kinda plods along to the enviable conclusion.

Thanks Gabriel for a fun night. What that Brett guy said! Also for those in on the conversation the name of the mockumentary film abt a TV Show where people must go around killing each other is "Series Seven - The Contenders". :) (2000)

Thank you Gabriel, for a fine effort in putting together an admittedly difficult MeetUp for all of us! It is greatly appreciated - as a fellow organizer, I can appreciate what it takes, and you did a fine job. Enjoyed chatting with everyone and hope you all enjoyed the film. See you next time!

It's looking like we'll go to the Slug and Lettuce afterwards, but the number I can find seems to be off the hook all the time. Will try to find another, otherwise will go in there before the film to see if we can secure some space!

Nicoletta it isn't sold out; I just tried and was able to book another ticket... which does mean I have two now, so if somebody wants to buy one of mine on the day let us know! Shamin if both these huge screens sell out (which I'm sure they will) there's nothing else we can do; other places will sell out a lot faster than the O2, and probably many have already; it's a shame the cinemas won't put it on an extra screen- maybe they will closer to the day itself but that'll be too late for our group

I quit, Now I have the discount card but aren't no more seats!

    July 14, 2012

  • Gabriel

Hopefully the O2 will be the next best thing Karan. I was waiting on private screens but not available on terms we could use. Sorry Shamim, I was hoping for the Apollo but they aren't showing it, Leicester Sq is probably too expensive for most, Trocadero is way too cheesy and has no decent meeting space and the other central cinemas will sell out. So it's a trip to Greenwich for the first time!

    July 13, 2012

  • Karan

Can we reserve IMAX for this one? Maybe difficult but worth trying

Hi all, yes the 'where' is taking a while! There are a few options but I want to make sure they won't sell out before most of us get our tickets so have asked a couple of cinema whether they'd do a seperate screen. As soon as I know I'll post this meetup fully; may be Islington or Piccadilly, though I think the pub afterwards may also be a challenge!

Since we've got a large number of people attending, will it be possible to arrange a private booking instead?

    July 8, 2012

  • Gabriel

Sorry Shawn I removed the last comment just because in a previous meet people started buying tickets for the Imax not realising we wouldn't be meeting there! If people want to go there it's up to them but the meetup will be elsewhere; I'll see where we can fit as soon as all the schedules are up!

    July 2, 2012

  • Gabriel

Yeah it's going to be hard finding a cinema to fit all of us, but will let people know when all the schedules are up- probably have to be a mainstream one so it's big enough- we'll never get enough tickets for the Imax I'm afraid! Then a pub big enough for us...

Me too! I saw the last one at the IMAX (well, I say 'saw'- I was half passed out in the cinema from heat stroke for the first half after walking around in the hot summer sun before the film, and then came to with the Joker parading around in a nurse outfit. XD)
