The film is presented in association with www.brightwide.com, a new website screening the best of international social and political cinema.
PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL, produced by Abigail E. Disney and directed by Gini Reticker, is the extraordinary story of the Liberian women – Christian and Muslim united - who came together in the midst of a bloody civil war, took on the violent warlords and corrupt Charles Taylor regime, and won peace for their shattered country. Their demonstrations culminated in the exile of Charles Taylor and the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first female head of state.
Davide Nardi, Director of NGO Partnerships and Activism for Brightwide, and Brita Fernandez-Schmidt, Director of Policy for Women for Women International -UK, will introduce the film to similarly inspire women and men in the UK to take further action by ‘Joining WoMEn on the Bridge,’ a worldwide event on International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2010, where supporters of Women for Women will celebrate by meeting on the Millennium Bridge, alongside women and men on bridges around the world to show that women from war-torn or divided communities are united in building the bridges of peace. Hutu and Tutsi women will join on the bridge that connects Congo and Rwanda. Shia and Shi’ite women will join together in Baghdad. Bosnian, Serb and Croat women will join together in Sarajevo. Likewise, women who have suffered war will unite in Afghanistan, Sudan, Nigeria and Kosovo - all countries where Women for Women International works.
